right, 235/40/17 is about as meaty a tire you can fit on the R55/56 chassis, and that is with the perfect offset!
I cannot believe that nobody has made wider fenders for the new mini's. Look at the old mini's, you can get 1/2 inch to 12 inch wider flares. I don't think it would be hard to ship a set of flares off to china, have them scan all the hard points and make a new fender 1/2 inch wider.

Ugh! Reading the current threads and archives I can almost garentee that will NOT fit on the Cooper / Clubman.
The wheel arch depths are not as wide as many think / appear to be.
There would be alot of poke and 4x4 status to run that kind of tire... and it may still rub!

Erik, I think you should ask PaintPro21 (Eddy, same guy who runs Apex) if he'd be willing to update the molds for a JCW Cooper wheel package; there's definitely a market for them.
A JCW with 255s on a 17x9....zomgz griptions. Dunno if that'd fit though.....geometry time.Leave a comment:

They are great at stopping; great initial bite and the feedback response is really good.
However, the downside is lack of aftermarket wheel choice.
First, Mini thinks that 4x100 is common place for a platform that's heavily known for aftermarket treatment...
When wheel designers think 4x100 is two decades too old! S.O.A.B!!!
And add that with a brake package that nixes all, but 17" choices, you're left with cheap immitations and poor styling.

Interesting feedback.... The pressures just seem absurd... I would run them if they work I guess, but I don't want to have to adjust my camber.... Oh, and nice motor you got there, I'm jealous.

Couldn't agree more with the internet and bad reviews.As far as R888s go, I've heard lots of good reviews from people running really high tire pressures (~44psi or thereabouts) and tons of negative camber (~-3.5-4.5 degrees), and lots of BAD reviews from people expecting to run normal RA1-esque tire pressures (~32-38psi).
Tire pressures and camber make a HUGE difference on these tires. People who hate them probably haven't put in the time to make them work well, or can't figure out why a tire that ISN'T an RA1 doesn't ACT like an RA1.
Also, on the internet, you'll hear a ton about what tire people hate, but next to nothing about what tire they like.
as far as tire pressure, I checked mine after a hot lap at the ring and they were 44psi front and 43 rear. I lowered the fronts a bit so it was even all the way around. My buddies think i'm crazy for running that high, but none of them are passing the little mini on little tires :up:Leave a comment:

Fair enough. The R888s are the most expensive last time I heard, and once I get the alignment set again, I don't wanna change it. Changing it last time resulted in the wear I have on the Dunlops now, which is less than optimal. I'd like to get it all set and leave it, even though it's adjustable.Leave a comment:

Check Bf.c's track section as well. I know for a fact that tons of people run them and love them, given sufficient camber and tire pressure. Why wouldn't you run the needed pressure/camber to get them to work effectively?

I disagree, there's a thread in the track section where they compared the NT01, RA1, and R888, all saying to pick the NT01 or the RA1, whichever was cheaper. Also, I don't WANT to run those kinds of pressures, or that much camber...Leave a comment:

Remember guys, a spacer effectively lowers the offset. Lots of guys with E30 M3 5lug run E36 wheels with a 20mm spacer to get an effective 20-25mm.
A 10-15mm spacer on an et25 wheel would net an effective et15 or so offset. (et25 - 10mm = et15)
