    Sam,

If the OP or Ross doesn't buy your car I have a pretty solid potential buyer. What kind of gas mileage are you 318 guys getting at Altitude? I told him 30 plus. Is that accurate? What's the power difference like compared to the m20 at altitude? I know it's lighter so it shouldnt be that worse huh? Modern motor too...

My average gas mileage is 30 mpg, if I drive normally, relative to other "normal" drivers. I have been getting 28-29ish avg lately, driving like an ass-hat, as in passing everyone, accelerating hard from every stop light, etc. My daily drive is 60 miles of back roads w/ a 45mph speed limit, and plenty of twisties, but not a ton of elevation change.

M20 def has more power and torque, its a significant difference, but the M42 car isn't a complete dog either. My 318is can get out of it's own way, that's for sure, and it has enough power to break the tires loose around a corner if need be. The usual metric of measuring a car's acceleration is 0-60 time, or 1/4 mile, neither of which I know. A 325i may run a 16 in the 1/4 mile, while a 318is may run a 17.

And no one is showing any serious interest as of yet, which is expected, because I haven't put up a FS ad yet or any kind. The only reason I have not is that I have had no time for a deep cleaning and photo shoot. All it needs is for me to put the "i" lip back on (just got new clips in the mail), to remove the remaining pin striping, and to give it a good inside/outside cleaning.

If anyone wants to buy it now before I do those things, let me know, the car is for sale.

        Sam,
Thanks for replying to me so quickly and trying to help out, I really appreciate it. However, I think that I am going to try to stick to a M20. Thanks again though.

I get 25-26 mpg with the 4.10 diff. I average 37mph. I drive crazy too.

Edit: opps, saw you were asking the power difference, not really the gas difference

The listed 0-60 back in the day was around 7.8 0-60 for the M20 and in the 9's for the 318is.

now I am super curious about quarter mile times also... it's been a while since I have raced on a dragstrip, maybe I should take the ol' M42...

Just got a reply back from these people. They are kinda old people who know nothing about the car! AT ALL! It was hard talking to them. The only thing that I found out that was useful was that the timing belt, water pump and clutch were done at 105k.

Other than that, the car "drives great" and "is a straight shooter".

I then asked when I could drive down there and take it for a drive and they said that it is "being looked over by a friend who specializes in BMW's" and that they should get the car back by wednesday....who the fuck knows what that means.

Also found out that they have only owned it for 6k and the PO was a mechanic and has all the service records (a mechanic who has service records aka doesnt do his own work?...who knows)

I'll keep you all posted and let you know how it goes.

Well its a 2800 pound car with only a 2.5L engine. It shouldn't be much lower then that. If anything the M42 should have higher mileage. I am disappointed in the Ti's 31mpg. Granted it doesn't have an overdrive gear.

if the car has different performance then you might feel different about it.. I got 12lbs flywheel, mark D chip, 2.5 exhaust so might make a bit of different from Sam's car;)

I have now decreed that I have to try out your 318is w/ the Mark D chip and light flywheel...

I have heard that those mods will make a 318is keep up with an un-modded 325is.

My M42 is 100% stock, the only power upgrades (if power has even been upgraded at all) may be the power steering and mechanical fan delete. Of course any power gains there (maybe 2 hp) is negated completely by the age of the engine...

ALL of the car's straight-line performance upgrades have been in weight reduction.

The suspension is better than an E30. The interior is Ti specific and not the weird E36 interior. Not really comparable to the standard E36's suck crowd imo. It's a nice little car.

That's fine, I have been google chatting with your work computer a short while ago, we have been complaining about your annoying habits, you know, like leaving your work computer logged in....

besides, I am not sure how well dealings will work out between two broke-ass family men. me, being a broke-ass tightwad, will want to sell the car for more than you, a broke-ass tight wad, will want to pay for it.

                                ;)
