Broke the car this weekend at autox

So, I did manage to win DSP for the first time ever in a field of 9 competitors with only two runs! Why 2 you ask? Because my car broke on the third. Massive knocking sounds from the tranny/drive shaft. Drop exhaust, pull shield, and MY CARRIER BEARING IS GONE! Not broke or failing, but just gone. So, slid that bracket as far forward as possible and and then bolted the exhaust up and very carefully drove home. Made it home with no issues at all, but will not be driving the car until this is fixed. Kinda funny, cause I can do this and that LSD at the same time! They kinda go hand and hand. Anyways, was bummed to have the car break, but super happy to finally win DSP.

Anyways, suggestions on where to buy carrier bearing?

by carrier bearing you mean center support bearing, yes?

and how the heck did you even drive the car at all w/o one??

I would look at pelican, getbmwparts.com, BMAparts.com, and bavauto. chances are Pelican or getbmwparts (tischer) has the best pricing.

Well, I had abunch of people say no, and a bunch say yes as to if I should drive it or not. Not having that bearing made it slam against the shield, which was all the noise. Removed that and slide the bracket is sits on as for forward as possible and it worked. I was mainly worried about the slip joint and having the back just fall out. But suuuuuuper slow acceleration and dodging bumps led to a safe drive.

probably not a bad idea to throw a whole new shaft in there as well.

yeah, depending on how much damage there is. A d-shaft can be had at a junkyard for cheap. Most likely though you shouldn't have destroyed the shaft. The are pretty tough, but be sure to inspect it anyway.

Boulder Drive Line rebuilt my shaft U joints for cheap. Not much more than a junkyard shaft when you consider the gas and time to fish it out. Every junkyard shaft I looked at was bad.

Yeah, if the shaft has more than 100k miles on it, it's probably shot... good luck finding a sub 100k mile driveshaft in a junkyard Sam.

Congrats on the DSP win, you have 9 cars in DSP?? Thats awesome, I usually compete alone in DSP and when I do go against someone they are seconds behind. It even has me looking at other cars and street tires in order to get some good competition!

                              Sucks about the breakage.
