Insurance Policies that Accept Vehicle Modifications
I'm in the UK and getting a modified policy is really hard, the moment mods are declared the price shots up like a rocket to the moon. I imsured my BMW via a track day/race policy with a specilist and it costs next to nothing. I also am allowed to do engine transplants at free will (note my S54 thread). My advice would be look into a policy like that and you will be surprised by how welcoming these companies are with people who have modified cars. Just my two cents worth.

I can also do engine transplants at free will. There is no way the insurance company would ever know, even if you walked an adjuster up to the car and opened the hood.
"oh look, it's a BMW engine in a BMW!"
They probably wouldn't even do anything if I had a huge chrome blower sticking two feet out of the hood.
He is trying to get them covered under insurance. No company here is going to care what you do to it, but if you crash it they will value it at retail value. If I swap a S54 into a Geo metro it will still be worth $500 to the insurance company unless you can value your modifications to them.
In the UK if a car is in an accident espevially a BMW they check over whole car, there has been a few accidents with a E36 318i that has has a 328 or Euro M3 conversion but still declared as either a 318 or 320. Also the government have people who can pull you over at side of road and check your car chassis or engine number match that on database, thats rare but it happens. I used to have a E30 316i poverty spec running an M52 2.8 and the insurance company were not told about engine and I was in an accident I would lose my licence as I'd have my insurance cancelled in a similar fashion to drink driving. Thats what I meant by getting a track type policy as at free will you can get away with nearly anything from engine to suspension and be covered with all mods included. I'm not sure how the law works yourside of the Atlantic but here modified cars get pulled by cops and they are hard to insure. Anyone under 23 trying to insure a car in the UK can expect to pay 5000 GBP which is about 7500 USD for a 1.4 VW Golf Front wheel drive. Its tough here. I'm lucky being 24 and knowing how to insure my cars and having a leaniant insurance provider.

I have american collectors on my M3. Set value, appraised. $18,000 value insured no questions asked. 7,500 mile/year cap. $85 month for same liability/collision/comprehensive insurance I had with allstate. $1k deductible. Covers $1,500 in spare parts as well.
I use Liberty Mutual. They cover mods with receipts. They also offer additional coverage... stated coverage basically.
State Farm is similar. They cover what I have done to the car as long as I can show documentation. I actually expected to pay more for the coverage and would have been fine with paying more but that said no need. Been with them over 20 years though./

I'm glad I live on this side of the Atlantic. That sound like a real nuisance, having people make sure that your car is still stock. Sounds like California.
Grundy and Haggerties will also but has to be a collectors car.
Hagerty asked for the year of the car; I told them a 2008...
They laughed, told me good luck and hung up.

I called a local state farm agent and they too said they won't cover... who is your local agent?
I will look into Farmers, Liberty Mutual, Progressive, and American Collectors.
Keep the details coming; I need all the info I can get.
When I had Geico I could have sworn there was an option online to add additional coverage for modifications.
I have geico and they do cover modifications. You can actually talk to an agent and they will give you a quote. Insurance on my swapped car was only about $60 higher for 6 months than when it wasn't swapped....
