Also, if the M20 front subframe will work on an m42, ask Clark if he could spare the one on the parts car.

I'd guess that you would likely need to take an engine with it.

Hmm, yeah technically it is a front subframe. I guess I said "engine cradle" because that is what it would be on upullandpay. But I will change the topic.

For $500 I can order one for you and hand deliver it to your garage! It'll take about 8 business days, though.

For $30 I can go get one at upullandpay, unless someone has one closer.

If I end up buying Clark's car soon, that issue will be solved anyway.

I'm impressed. Hopefully it's not too much of a pain to replace.

                      You are impressed by what?

It doesn't seem hard to replace.

                        That you broke it.

oh yeah, me too. I am still convinced that something else was going on to cause this to happen. You don't just break subframes like that. I didn't even hit anything hard. I just noticed that it suddenly got hard to steer. You would think maybe a control arm would bend first or at least the oil pan would get hit or something.

I think that the repeated "rallying" on a 20 year old subframe is what did it.

Could be. What I am saying is that it was probably not just one concentrated event that caused a full failure, it must have been fatiguing over time.

Either way, time to reinforce another subframe and slap it in.

Clark, depending on what happens next weekend, I may want to buy your entire E30. I know I keep saying this, but it doesn't make it any less true. ;)
