I need an engine...can anyone help?

I am ready to drop an engine in my 318is...but I don't have one yet. I have been told an m50 can be had for $500. I would prefer a 24v but I have yet to see one at this price. So at this point I am willing to just get a replacement m42 as I need this vehicle to be driving before snow flies. Does anyone have or know of an m50 or m42 for a reasonable price? As a finders fee for the engine I purchase...a pizza and 30 rack of your choice! :D

    Help please!

    Thanks

I have an m42 engine that's been sitting outside for a couple of years that I'd unload dirt cheap. It was running when removed but will need some work to get back into working order (most auxiliary systems removed, no trans/fw/clutch, etc.). If you want more info just send me a pm.

Yes uh... not going to happen. Even if you were to find an M50 for $500 (good luck) the cost of all the ancillaries would not make it cheap (think $2000+, that's doing the bare minimum and doing all the work yourself).

F it then. I need an m42. Like I said....If anyone finds me a decently low mileage (under 150k) m42 for a reasonable price...I'll personally deliver a 30 rack and pizza to you!

I think I have a sub 100k mile m50nv with tranny, wire harness, and ecu lined up. If it falls through I'll be in contact.

Which is great, except do keep in mind you will need at least midpipes of some kind, a driveshaft, motor mounts, and a brake booster. Since it's a 4.10 rear, you will also need a diff. And of course oilpan & pickup unless it's an E34 engine.

I am aware. Friends going to weld up some pipes for me. I know of at least 5 e36 325i driveshafts in salvage yards. Mounting arms and mounts are also taken care of. I'm going to rock the stock diff and trans for a while though. As far as the brake booster goes, I'm going to modify the stock one. And yes, it's an e34 motor. I dont know if it comes with accessories though. A throttle cable shouldn't be an issue to get. Then there's the wiring and dme. I may have some problems with that since I have no experience. But I guess we'll see. Anything else I should be look into?

If anyone tell you its gonna cost more then 1000 for an m50 they are silly.

Ive bought 2 perfect working m50's for $500. You can get the rest of the swap parts for under 200 bucks. The key to keeping the budget down is being able to the custom stuff like welding up an exhaust and trans mount and wiring up your own harness adapter.

                        What did I tell you?
Other things to look into it depends: the stock diff will get old *fast*, I have a 3.46 in mine with an S52 (with a few odds and ends to help it) and that's already too short. That's the first thing I'd think about. Then you have AC lines, if those are a factor.
You'll have to fiddle with heater core lines and radiator hoses IIRC.
That plus the E36 PS lines will get you most of the way functional. Oh right. Airbox.
And, you have to decide whether to keep the 318 radiator or whether to go 6cyl.
