I might be moving to Mass...Lexington area.

Hello fellow r3vers. A job may be relocating me to the area so I wanted to hear what other people say about it. I was there when the Halloween storm hit a few weeks back and stayed at the Westin Waltham (big glass building looking over the highway 128 ). Even we lost power for 6 hours. haha.

We did drive around the Lexington, Bedford, Burlington, and Waltham. We are probably going to rent first to check the area out. I dont want to be more than 30min from Lexington so anything close and safe is where Im looking.

On the e30 side…garage space will come later as I will probably store my 2 in the south for the winter. I do like the way most houses that I saw have that 2 car garage detached look going on. The roads aren’t in as good condition as where im coming from so it looks as if I may need to get some skid plates. One thing that will take some getting use to (other than less topdown driving) is front plates! Arrr…this will kill me.

How is the e30/BMW scene? Im a member of the BMWCCA and I have looked at the local chapter. Looks promising.

Are my two welcome? (pix always brings interest )

    Anyway, any info will help.

    Cheers!
    Dan

Hey man! Cars look great. BMWCCA has a decent chapter here. The e30 scene is not as good, but the overall car scene is good.

check out yuppieracing.com. I have same handle on there. Great events good guys/gals. Don't be put off by the name. It is more tongue n cheek.

As for Lexington, I used to live in Belmont and am now in Littleton. My wife grew up in Concord one town over. Acton, Bedford, Lexington,Concord and Littleton are all very safe towns with great schools. You should easily be able to rent a place with a garage.
They are somewhat pricey areas to be in, but nice communities. Skid plate is a must. My vert isn't aggressively lowered and I scrape at times. There are some excellent driving roads in the area, also a decent autox scene if that is your thing.

Nice pair! I'm from the south shore (Scituate,) and during the summer I had the top up thrice so you should be fine. As far as the front plate is concerned, Mass didn't have the money to pull the old green plates off the road, so as a result, there's still a large number of one-platers driving around so it won't be blatantly obvious if you don't put it on. Worst case scenario just keep it in the door pocket and say it fell off in the car wash; I drove around with no front plate for a few years and nobody said anything.

Some people put the plate on their dash. I HATE having a front plate. makes the E30 look like it has buck teeth.

I grew up in Lexington and live in Winchester now. I'm very active in the CCA community and do autocross and many other events. It's probably one of the top 5 chapters in the country, and you will be very welcome to be a member here. Lexington is a great town, but it is very very liberal politically. The populace constantly votes themselves tax hikes, if you're not into that kind of thing you might want to consider other towns.

Thank you very much for some info of the area. It is still an unknown if I am coming up but should know soon.

I might just keep my cars registered here in NC for rear tags only.

As with all of our cars, we need constant parts. How is the local pick-n-pull yards? Slim pickings or not even worth going?

Cars are a big part of me so I was wondering how the north deal with it since( I would only assume) most classics are keep inside for wintertime. When I was up there, I saw 2 modded e30s, one done right (alpine lowered a tad with some wheels that I couldnt make out while rolling on 128 ) , the other a cabrio done wrong. lol. Im glad there is a BMW community.

Any area that I should avoid or recommend when considering children education, K+ ?

Any area that I should avoid or recommend when considering neighborhoods?

Again, thanks for the info.

Plenty of pick n pulls near by. Get ready to pay extra due to zip code. I used to live next door in Lincoln.

Check out school ratings online. Lexington has excellent schools. So do many of the surrounding towns around it. Check out , Belmont, Concord, Acton, Winchester, Bedford, Newton, Weston, Wellesley. All Have some of the top public schools in the state. Dana is right Lexington is very liberal ( so is Winchester...lol) as in turns out most of the towns in MA with decent schools that aren't private are in fairly liberal towns.

I'm in the science field, biotech for years so companies like Biogen would be in my interests.

I've heard the the schools are going to be above average especially from where I am now.

Lexington and within 30 minutes of it are all safe and are great communities to live in, among the best in the state.

If you choose to make the move, welcome! The CCA is a great organization, and I've autocrossed with them in the past. One of the best autocross venues in the Northeast is a close drive, around 45 minutes away, and there's an event nearly every weekend from April to October.

The CCA puts on several DEs at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, which is an hour north. COM SCC puts on a few events at NHMS as well, and you can time trial with them there.

There are cars and coffee type events every now and then.
