yeah I take trips to NYC semi frequently, once every 3 months or so....and we usually go mass pike to 84 to 91 to 95 (typically leave at 5-6pm so there really isnt too much traffic that time of night)....but i did get "lost" coming home one day and ended up on the sawmill, definitely was a better trip. I think since I'll be leaving at a regular time, I'm gonna take this route.
Thanks!

- Take I-84 South to Danbury, CT.
- Just past Danbury, connect to I-684 South for a few miles until you get to Katonah, NY.
- Then connect to the Saw Mill Parkway South all the way to Tarrytown, NY.
- Follow I-287/I-87 West across the Hudson River via the Tappan Zee Bridge to Nyack, NY.
- I-87W will take you to the Garden State Parkway. Follow that straight down to South Orange, NJ.
Here's the preferred route on Google Maps: http://g.co/maps/nd2gk
This might sound crazy, but the trip will not only be significantly faster (no traffic), but also much nicer. The Saw Mill Parkway is a GORGEOUS driving road that winds through the hills. It's fantastic driving...much nicer than a highway slog along I-95.
And you really don't want to take the George Washington Bridge to cross the hudson. Traffic can be insane. Take the Tappan Zee instead and you'll have much more fun.1991 318is --- currently not road worthy
