Hi Gang,
Here’s the scoop. My daily driver, a 1992 (E30) 325i Convertible (98K miles) needs some repairs done to it, and I'm looking for a local wrench to do the work either through their business or as some side work. I'd do much of the work myself, but I hurt my back earlier this year and I really don't have sufficient garage space to do it quickly and efficiently at the moment. I'm located in Cambridge, MA.
A friend of the family is a mechanic, and he was going to do the work at a "family rate" as side work. Given that I haven't had paying work since March, this would have been a tremendous help. He had purchased the parts from Pelican Parts on my behalf, and now he's apparently unable to work on the car. This means, I'm stuck with paying for a whole lot of parts (it’s too expensive to return) and my daily driver remains unfixed.
Here's what needs to be done:
* New rotors, brake pad, and brake sensor installation.
* 100K Service items, such as a timing belt and water pump replacement, with a rotor, distributor cap, and ignition wire harness quickly popped in along the way. I've already gapped and changed out out the spark plugs and the O2 sensor myself.
* The car is not running smoothly, and when warmed up - the check engine light comes on after about 30 seconds at idle. The "stomp test" shows a 1222 Lambda code, which I believe means that it's running too rich (I'm not surprised; I now only get about 20 mpg these days and the exhaust smells rich). The top hoses have already been changed out, to no avail. The family friend says that on inspection, he thinks that he found a leaky intake manifold gasket to be the problem.
In short, I need a quote for labor and turnaround time. The family friend's estimate was about 6 hours for everything listed above, except the timing belt and water pump installation.
So if any of you have time to help me repair my pride and joy, while saving my wallet in the process, please let me know by contacting me directly. If you can’t do it yourself, please let me know if you know of any local mechanics that could do this affordably.
Many thanks.
