    hey fellas, im looking into picking up an e30, im just looking for advice about buying one and trying to see what i would be getting into, such as common problems with this generation of bmw. and help will be apriciated, thank you

    Definitely read the technical forums for a good primer. Unless there is proof of doing so recently, you will need to change the timing belt and water pump.

      Try to buy one with service records( rare in my case)
      Read and search and keep searching u will find everything u need to know

        Hey Drew,

        Not sure what your plan is with it, but I would look for a clean body. Most of the mechanical stuff can be sorted out at a fair cost and the scope of the jobs aren't that big. I wouldn't be too scared of high mileage either - so long as you can tell it has been cared for. I bought mine with 252K, however the owner, that owned it since new also handed me a repair/upkeep journal since he bought the car and a receipt for just about everything.

          my plan is basically a DD, but id clean it up if needed. maybe upgrade seats, wheels, suspension, motor work if needed. i just wish i kept my 540i, i assume people have dropped that motor and tranny in earlier 5 series before. so really looking into these is like looking into a VW in which ive had a few before, regarding the timing and waterpump issues.
