    Any r3v'ers in Boston?

I live outside of Buffalo NY, and I am going to be going out to Boston in a few weeks (mainly going to see #nofilter, and visit my GF's brother). I am always anxious to try and find the best greasy spoon/hidden gem/local secret places to eat when I travel, and I'm sure Boston has plenty. Like I said, my GF's brother lives in Boston, so you would think he could help us out, but as an unsocial starving artist vegan, isn't very helpful when finding cuisine. Normally we just end up using UrbanSpoon when picking a place to eat.

So I ask you, r3v'ers of Boston (or Cambridge, or any surrounding area), where do I absolutely have to go eat to find good beers and high calorie, savory, make you want to take a nap meals?

      Awesome. Thanks Swanny.

And to keep this semi e30 related... I'm not sure what I'm going to drive out. It almost certainly won't be my gf's e30, since hers may or may not have a bad rod bearing, but I am not going to risk finding out for outside of my AAA tow range. I just wrapped up my 2.7i build/rack swap/refresh a couple days ago, and don't feel like 2 weeks will have been enough time for it to prove itself (again, AAA tow zone). I will never walk again if I try to do it in the miata...

Idk. I could borrow a vehicle from my Mom to be safe and practical, or I could through caution to the wind and take my e30. I just don't want to end up making one of those "Help! Stranded in...!" Threads.

There's tons of good food available.. I live in Quincy, about 15 minutes South of Boston... Lots of great (affordable) Seafood in the Quincy area.. If you want Italian food, head over to the North End...

Check out Larz Anderson, Museum of Transportation in Brookline, MA while you are here!

Thanks for the info. I haven't been to the Museum of Transportation before, I will look into that.

I was considering the Sam Adams brewery tour. Is it worth it, or is it a waste of time?

Lived in Boston for a good while myself, there's plenty of r3v guys kickin around. Check out the ne30 Facebook group and introduce yourself!

As far as things to do I personally would skip the Sam Adams tour. It's just a little boring but the harpoon brewery is worth it and puts you in a good area. Luckys lounge is nearby and it's a cool spot to grab brunch (if you're hungover hah it's very dark). If booze is your thing check out bully boy distillers and grand ten distillery. They are in that general area, both new startup distillers and really cool guys. Plus Lonny from grand ten has an e28 m5 if I remember correctly.

Someone mentioned the north end, giacamos and ponza are where it's at. If you want to sit for pastry and coffee I like cafe Vitoria, if you want to grab n go, go to bovas. Mikes pastry is for the tourists haha.

My favorite diner/breakfast joint is in Somerville (my old hood). The neighborhood restaurant on bow st. It's really got to be seen to be believed, you will not leave hungry I'm pretty sure it's impossible.

Good food is everywhere so don't waste your time with any bad meals!! I could give you a list of restaurants I like if you want.

Thanks so much robo-trigger. That is the type of knowledge I was looking for. I'll have to figure out and post up what neighborhoods I'll be in so you can lead my stomach to the right place.

Heard back: Mead hall, Dali, stoddards. Harpoon for sure if you're doing a brewery. Friends just went there a couple weekends ago and had a great time.

I think if you poll locals, they'll prefer JM Curleys over Stoddards. I also prefer Lord Hobo over Meadhall, the ambiance and beer expertise/nerd-dom is way better. Meadhall is in a really quiet area. It's where people go after work to grab a craft brew, then they hop onto the subway (T) to go home. I mean, Hobo is also equally in the middle of nowhere too, but I just prefer it.

Bukowski's Cambridge is also decent, but it's closed for renovations until like sometime in mid-September.

I'm moving out at the end of August. If you're around before then, I'd definitely be down to hang out for a beer.

Also, I think brewery tours aren't particularly that entertaining. Once you see one, you've seen them all, basically.

Some slightly more out-of-the-way places that you might enjoy are Highland Kitchen in Somerville and the Kirkland Tap and Trotter. The latter is kind of hit or miss though.

It will be this upcoming Friday/Saturday. I will get a firmer idea of my schedule and get in touch.

Super 88 asian supermarket has the best ramen place attached to it called, pikaichi.

they also have other food there but I always get ramen, bubble tea, and then some green tea kit kats from the asian market it's bomb!
