Will an E30 work in snow?

My E28 works well in the snow also. It has an open diff but I run fairly tall and narrow directional snows with good tread. Make sure the tires are not under inflated. It also helps that my car isn't stanced. Once I put in the limited slip it will be a beast.

I have a 88 325is and have owned it for 3 years. Lived in New England all my life and never once had snow issues. Just get proper winter tires and you're golden

PS.. I drove my auto 325i through 8 winters in the Burlington, VT area.. Down 89 to ski Stowe when the highway was closed, up to Smuggs, Burke Mountain etc. It was a BEAST in the snow with good snow tires. Miss that car ;(

Just put get all season tires and you'll be fine. No one around here runs studded but a few people have actual winter tires.

I would NEVER get all seasons for an e30.. You want TRUE snow tires... Studs aren't necessary but All Seasons aren't going to keep you as safe as you could be if you were running snow tires..

OP I use my 89 iS in the snow. I take it up snowboarding and have to drive through all conditions. It works great with the LSD and real snow tires. Keep a full tank of gas for traction and a shovel and rope tow in the back in the event of an emergency. Do not listen to the other poster saying all seasons are adequate. They are not even in the slightest.

Yes, the '89 (green one in my sig) has a little more than 434k now. The driveline on that one is perfect. The xfer case in my '90 is shot now (that is the one in the snow pic).

Don't stop moving and especially don't stop on a hill. Run the light if no one is coming. Our cars have 50/50 weight distribution (even more weight in the back if it's a convertible), which I feel makes them more predictable (read: more fun) in the snow than a modern fwd car with traction control. Just put get all season tires and you'll be fine. No one around here runs studded but a few people have actual winter tires.

I daily drove me 325is through 3 ny winters. Only once ot twice did it get stuck. Just dont stop moving.

^ this. I grew up driving in snow in front wheel drive cars and rear wheel drive cars. You have to know your vehicle's limitations. I do "brake tests" every 1/2 mile or so in the snow (of course when no other cars are near me) just to see how the road really is.

I never had a RWD e30. All four of ours are iX.

I drove home in snow (Middletown, ny to Rosendale, ny) that was about 3" above the door. No problem with the studless Dunlop DS-2 tires. I stopped at a gas station an someone came in with a snowmobile and asked if I was crazy. I told him my car is my snowmobile. It was a bad storm.

Over the hood. LOVE IT.

We got 40" in southern CT two years ago and was so happy to have my iX. As far as I see it, if you can get to the driver's seat, you can drive in it.
