My experience has been similar with the M5, over the 5 years of ownership, it's had few issues, CPS (both intake and exhaust), waterpump (this was the most expensive thing to date to go, and the thermostat is unique to the S62 as well), rear sway bar bracket, fan control modual, and fuel pump or relay (wasn't positive which failed so i replaced them both, I don't like being stranded !) over all, I've maybe spent $1000 over the years. Only stuck me once with a reliability concern - the fuel pump - I do my own labor so it helps keep the cost down :)

lol. To be honest, the diff was mostly my fault. I was giving it some serious gas when the engine had *just* warmed up and it was well below freezing outside. I popped a C-clip and the axle slid out which chewed the splines up. I was driving the car over 150 miles a day for work over the summer and never had a problem.

I love my E39 Wagon. I have a new member of the family on his or her way and my wife feels so much safer in the 540it than her Corola… Go figure.

Anyways I really like the car minor problems like any other BMW cooling system needs to be check and the suspension now, 120k on the clock.

I would love to lower the car but trusting my waif it will be just a waist of paint on my front splitter.

Anyways have fun they are great cars and take care of the maintenance.

i agree that e39s are gorgeous. i think aside from the 8-series they might be the sexiest looking bmws ever (as much as i love the e30's looks, it isn't that sexy). i know i've been ogling them ever since they came out- especially the 01-03 models with the angel eyes and clear sidemarkers/turn signals.
Haha my bad. Yours is a manual, and his is an auto. I thought it was yours, so I went to look at it, but noticing that it was an automatic, I was thinking it was now Seths car, not yours.

And nope, you're wrong there douchebag. I was just pointing out a 'spotting' but this time, it was at work. There have been a few e36s that have the bf.c sticker, so I know they're on the forums.

I told everyone and their mom that I worked at Dominos for 3 years, so you think I'm bragging about my kind of new job? You need to get a job and stop being so hard on everyone else that actually has one. And if you do have a job now, congrats.

Keep doing your own labor. SRSLY. Some guy came in with an E39 M5 and he had the same stuff done that you had done, but it costed him a hair over $3,000. Another guy, the same day, had 12K worth of maint. done on his E39 M5.OMG.

Lol yup. I was quite amazed at the 12k bill. But then again, the tech pulled the whole motor and tranny to fix all the issues.
