Last Sunday on the way back from Lincoln City my GF asked if she could drive back to Portland. I said yes because she drove it before and was great at it.
She then proceeded stall it at like 5 lights between Sheridan and Sherwood, but being the nice guy I am I let her keep driving. I didnt want to seem like an ass and she rode up to the picnic so I figured I owed her one.
For her crowning achievment in E30 driving, she shifted from 5th to 1st coming up to a light. Enough was enough and I made her switch seats with me. As we traded I noticed a metallic sound coming from under my car. The sound got a lot worse on the way home but the car still drove well.
When I went to pull out my key after parking in my garage, my key wouldnt come out until I really twisted on it. I tried to restart it so I could hear where the loud metallic sound was coming from under my hood and my car wouldnt even crank.
My main relay and main fuse were both blown. After testing power at the starter I determined that my starter was at fault. Yesterday I was able to extract the starter and replace it. What a pain on a m50 swap, but managed to do it with the intake manifold still in place. The old starter was some Mexican no-name brand one and it sounded like a jar of bolts and the little gear was freewheelin!
Anyone else have any good stories about lending their cars out?
