    Getrag 260

Hi, my auto broke on me n am looking for a getrag 260 + th other parts to do a 5 speed conversion for cheap, perfarable from someone in PNW, most welcom from around Seattle/Tacoma area. 'am on budget so low price helps.

Question : is a manual trans from e36 going to bolt on to m20, if so are there any specific years to get it from and what should it come with from the donor?

Actually an E36 tranny should bolt on, but it will be rotated 10 degrees to the left. You'd have to modify the tranny mount, the shift carrier and the shift shaft selector to get it back to center. Just the opposite mod that the TwinCam people need to do when they use a G260 with their M50/M52/S50/S52 conversions. You'll likely need a different drive shaft too. Any E36 325/328/M3 tranny should bolt up.

Not 100% sure but I would think a E36 328 manual driveshaft would work. That's what I'm running in my car, which has an M50 engine --> E36 328/M3 ZF tranny --> E36 328 driveshaft --> M-Coupe differential for the drivetrain.

Forgot to mention that if you change the transmission your current differential is going to seem really short. Since you had an auto you are running a 4.10 right? A 3.23 differential with the stock E30 tire diameter seems just about right.

Yap, 4.10. maybe I'll need to change soon, 'am running 15" wheels which I intend to change to 16" or 17" .

I have a 1986 e30 325 manual in mind to pull a tranny out of - it"s eta i guess, what tranny came on it and is it a viable swap ? what are the main things to pay attention to... Thnx.

With a g260 you probably got a 2.93 OEM. Maybe a 2.73. Both are too tall for any fun in my opinion. The m20b25 (i cars) got a 3.73. Anything in between is a little bit more pricey but probably a good compromise. 3.25 or 3.46 come to mind. Depends if you want LSD as well.

I have a g260 still attached to the engine I pulled two weeks ago. Out of an 89 325i. Would consider seperating engine from trans. PM if you're interested.
