Okay,so I just recently bought a 86 325e, drove it home and the water pump went out as i pulled into my driveway.I replaced it ,then found that i needed to "BLEED" the coolant line from the themo stat housing,so i filled the coolant resivor as the car was running, capped the resivor then opened the bleeder valve and all i got was straight coolant:/,but my issue is my heater core isnt working,(well nothing in the center consoule is working except lights, the haz. and the snow flake:/) So to get to my question;I have replaced my water pump ONLY,can i properly bleed my coolant without the heater going? Also all tips and "new to bmw guy" jokes are taken kindly cause i just found reverse for the 1st time yesterday lol,so if someone can help me diagnose my consoule and my overheating issue thatd be great if someone in the burien area wants to help me i may pay you:)

heater running lets coolant go through car...
its the proper way. Is your fan dead or what? -
You have to bleed it with the heat set to full hot.
Park on your driveway so the front end of the car is higher than the rear.
Before starting the car, open the bleed screw and poor coolant in to the expansion tank until it runs out of the bleed screw.
Close both the bleed screw and expansion tank.
Turn on car, wait for it to reach full operating temp.
Open bleed screw, let air out.
Close bleed screw.
Rev engine a few times (4-5K should do it).
open bleed screw again, check for air.
Close bleed screw.
Shut off engine, wait for it to cool all the way down and re-check the level in the tank.
Add more coolant as necessary.Comment

Heater control valve is probably stuck closed or heater core is plugged. Pull the heater core out and see if you can pour water through it.
There is a nice write up on here for pulling out the Heater control valve. It can be a pain, be sure to have new o-rings on hand.m106 1990 e30
