e30 shifter feels sloppy?! any good aftermarket brands??

    hey guys,

So i recently purchased a 91 318i, and the previous owner said they installed a short shifter for the car. Ive been driving the car for a few days, and just absolutely hate the way it feels.

I have a buddy that said he used a e36 shifter...is that possible on the m42? im trying to find some good alternatives!

any good tips would be highly appreciated!

    Thanks

I'm going to try to not be a dick about this. This question has been answered many times, there are even very nicely done, descriptive write-ups on how to do it, and what the options are. Use the search feature here on this site, or even Google it. Welcome.

just went onto m42club and found some really good info. thanks for the heads up!

kid325e, for sure! its a different community (coming from a honda background) and i absolutely love it. e30s are definitely mechanical cars and seem to need attention quite a bit, but its the perfect platform...

now i just need to ditch the m42 for something more peppy...lol

As far as an aftermarket shifter goes: I just installed an AKG shifter & selector rod and I think I'm in love. Super short throws, really solid feel, and great parts quality. I would highly recommend it.

                z3 1.9 for moderate upgrade, or z4 3.0

I think the z4 2.5 is the best option for dd and it needs no mods at all to go in, just plug and play. https://www.koperformance.com/online...order_form.php

The 3.0 is apparently very notchy and harder to shift, plus the 2.5 is short on top which i like, it also shortens the throws by a lot...
