mine is apparently about to die ive found pieces of the chain in my oil and bits of plastic seeing if anyone has one laying around that is low mileage and low price lol

Do the chain would be my advice as well. Excellent learning experience and it's probably the cheaper option as well. I'm sure there are people that could help you get it aligned. A friend and customer just came to my work and bought everything needed to do the complete job and it was about $400. For everything.
Just a thought.
