    m20 coolant leak??

    hey r3v'ers

So i noticed my coolant was low. added some in, and i noticed a very small leak from the radiator drain plug "area". I added some aluminum stop leak, and that cured the problem, but i noticed another leak near the top of the motor where the radiator hoses connect to the engine. Im not sure if im referring to the water pump?? ill try and get some pictures of it in a few...

But as for the new leak, it seems like its leaking from a rubber grommet of some sort??

any advice to why this might be leaking?? ill try and get pics up asap

    Thanks for all the help:p

P.S. if anyone is down to do a timing belt and waterpump install, i can supply brew, food, and whatever else is kosher! ;) lemme know!

Buy yourself a coolant system pressure tester. Pump system to 16psi. Locate where coolant drips onto ground, then backtrack against gravity until you find your leak. Next time you have your cooling system open try to flush out as much of that stop-leak crap as you can - and never use it again.

            thermostat housing

this is the thermostat housing. i believe it can be leaking either around the hoses(hose clamp not tight or defective hose), paper gasket between housing and head or rubber o-ring that seals the center of the housing. hope this helps

yeah, I think a seal or something is going bad. Are there any write ups on how to replace the housing seals??

After you remove the thermostat housing, remove the three bolts that hold the thermostat inside. Replace O ring.

                  Done.

yeah but i dont think its the main o-ring?? under one of the radiator hoses, theres a rubber seal of some sort that is leaking. if you look at the pic i posted, my pointing finger is pretty much leading to the rubber seal that i speak of (obv cant see it in the pic since its hidden).

Btw, using stop leak wouldnt affect the thermostat/housing anyway, would it?? because after using it, the thermostat housing started to leak......

Looks like the gasket between the head and the thermo housing. Might be a hose too.

Well, I wouldn't think so, but that stop leak stuff can really mess up a cooling system.
