You can fly with one leg right? SeaTac --> LAX is $150 with southwest... $1500 rust free socal car and a roadtrip weekend.

When I was a young buck like you I drove from Kelowna BC to Fresno CA in a F250 with a 32ft car hauler in one stint, Took me 27 hours since I couldn't go very fast. I'm sure you can make a return trip in your minty fresh E30 with case of redbull before class starts on monday.

Being somebody with a different situation than everybody else on this board, I'd expect you to think outside the box a little..

I already discussed taking a train to Cali (cheaper than flying) buying car and driving back. They dont like the idea.. at all

I like it, I say go for it. Prepare to do some maintenance it is a used car from craigslist and enjoy it. You could always get an e30 later, unless you get someone prego sometime in the near future. Then you'll be stuck in it .

Have prices and travel times for the flight/train/bus and return trip.

Have 3-4 cars in your destination city lined up to look at in case a few are duds.

Do you have any friends, family/relatives that you can stop off at on the return trip?

Have a game/business plan before you go into the meeting. This will never change in the future btw...

Okay I know a one way ticket is $130 to sacramento. My aunt lives in Roseville, she would let me stay there. I would have to do it in the Summer though. As I know my parents absolutely WILL NOT miss a few school days for this type of thing. And no breaks are coming up.

I might need a hotel, so figure $50 for one night at some shitty place.

Problem is getting from one interested car to another.

tourings are cool man and if its what you want then get one. I just sold my E34 540i a few months back and I miss it but it was an auto and even with the 4.0 it sucked. Since you cant get the stick I would go with an E30 if it were me. A little bit lighter and just that much more fun when limited to the crappy BMW auto.
