They had a high compression 3.2 M30, light flywheel and a lightened chassis. In other words, it was a go-fast car.

That's what makes them stand out from your basic B34 powered car. I'd like one at some point, but I need an E30 first!

They had a high compression 3.2 M30

High-ish. The 533i had 8.8:1 compression. The US E28 535i had 8:1 compression and some euro cars came with 10:1 comp.

The chassis wasn't lightened per se, but it was lighter than its replacment, the 535i.

In other words, it was a go-fast car.

Truf. The early production cars are the really desirable ones, though, they came with a hot camshaft.
