    Help Check Out A Car?

Hi everyone. I've been lurking on this site for a few months now trying to learn more about E30s. Now though, I think I'm ready to buy, and I'm considering this one:

Car has a clean title and looks like it's in decent condition with some recent service history. Talked to the seller, and he said that it runs rough for a couple of minutes on cold starts, electric sunroof is slow and AC needs a recharge, however other than that, car runs well.

Would anyone be willing to meet up with me to help me make a smart purchase? I have very limited knowledge and feel of E30s, and so I would really like to have someone who knows these cars tell me if it's a good one or bad one.

I have been following the internet trail and I just read that this person happens to be someone on this board who had a... disagreement with another member about an S50 engine swap a couple of months ago, but he looks to have since disappeared off of here. I'm sure many of you would have figured it out just by looking at the ad, but I want to give full disclosure in case someone would rather not deal with this person again.

    Anyone willing? Thanks in advance.

if the a/c needs a recharge that means it leaks. runs rough at cold could be a number of problems.

only thing i can recommend is take whatever car you are interested in to a repair shop you know and trust and have them do a used car buyers inspection. its well worth the money.

+1 on overpriced, car has 224k on the clock and he's asking 3800 for it :(
Ask for maintenance records, when was the timing belt done etc.
Keep looking I'm sure you'll find something better for the money.

I thought so. How much would you say this car is really worth? What would be a fair/good deal for this?

Yeah, I read through that entire thread, hence why I mentioned the seller was a board member.

Thanks everyone, I'll keep looking unless I can get a good deal out of him.

The car looks nice but i wouldnt pay $3800 for it. If it had rims, mtech wheel, some sort of suspension set up, sport seats, IS front lip and rear spoiler then it might have been worth looking at. I got my 89 coupe in similar condition for $1500.....

Yeah just wait a bit. Keep doing some research. Try for low miles but it kinda all depends on your budget. I paid $2000 for a well running, straight bodied early model. Good luck and hopefully you'll soon be in an e30.

                  Cheers - Joe
