Daily driving this has become impractical and if I leave it at home it's just as impractical for the growing family. So, I'm putting this here as a feeler. If there's no interest, I'll continue to give it love and daily drive it but, it's pretty much always on the table.
The car itself:
-06/'86 325es
-300,000 miles on the body but, it's straight and I'm prepping it for paint. Body work is being done by myself and a shop will likely spray it at the end of summer.
What's been done to it:
-Euro bumpers, paint matched as they did not come as shiny and new as I was hoping.
-Euro Ellipsoid headlights w/4500k HID's that are white with a tinge of blue but not nearly "rice"
-Euro head light grills
Engine and drive train:
-07/'94 E36 M3 S50B30 US with a recent head job (~5,000 miles on retainers, oil seals, valves lapped). Will have a full Remus exhaust setup before I let it go. Running S50 headers to Y into 2.75" single in dual out huge Remus exhaust.
-ZF320 5 speed manual that shifts like butter. No "knob lean".
-KA Motors carbon fiber intake/heat shield.
-Silent S2.93 differential with the option of a silent S3.25. Running the S2.93 for highway mileage (which is ~28.5mpg) as I daily drive it 80 miles total.
It's running stock ECU and injectors. I've been toying with putting larger in but it's frankly, not practical for what I use it for. I was conflicted with going upgraded MAF/Injectors/Cams/Tune or Turbo.
Things to Note:
-The VANOS unit is going to be replaced in the coming weeks. In the process of rebuilding the top end I replaced the VANOS seals (aluminum ring and oil seal) but the splined shaft was suspect at best. As it turns out, it's still robbing a bit of the buttery smooth power. I have a spare cleaned up unit that will receive fresh Beisen System's seals and be dropped in the coming weeks.
Suspension and Brakes:
-JOM coil overs front with GC rear springs. Spring rates front to rear are, 575lbf/800lbr. This setup rides amazingly well and I daily it pretty damn low on some of the worst stretches of I-5 without issues. Does not bottom out, does not wobble or shimmy. It's rock steady and does exactly what you want it to.
-Replaced control arms, bushings, tie rods, sway bar end links all within ~5,000 miles with full poly. Rear sub frame bushings are on the next, probably when I tackle the exhaust work.
-Stainless Steel brake lines to Brembo blanks on all for corners. Pads have 90% left on them.
-Modified 320i Brake booster and ATE Master work well enough but, I've always loved BBK's! Haven't had the extra scratch to upgrade. The brakes as it stands are 100% acceptable. They stop fantastic and straight.
Wheels:
-Borbet Type A wheels, staggered fitment 16x7.5" front, 16x9" rear. They are in the process of a refinished and will be completed before sale.
Interior:
-Heated tan leather sport front seats and a super clean standard tan bench rear. The driver's side is a bit worn on the seat bottom itself. Very respectable but, given it doesn't sell, I'll be swapping it out in the future.
-Clean dash. No cracks or flaws.
-Clean head liner.
-Red cluster needles, polished cluster rings and Alpina strip on the tac.
Note:
Some of the interior door panels are not 100%. There are a few flaws here and there. It's still 20+ years old despite how clean it is I've never been totally satisfied with it. But again, my intention was never to build a garage queen. I wanted a smooth, fairly powerful daily.
Body:
Well, there's not much to say beyond there's lot's of potential. I'm in the process of fixing every single door ding and flaw on it. Given I work grave yard it's usually in a state of mid repair and half sanded out. The paint itself will be sprayed by the end of summer professionally. If the car sells ready for paint the price will be significantly cheaper. And, you get to choose the color. If I have a shop paint it, the price will subsequently rise dramatically as the biggest draw back of this car is the exterior. The plan was Satin black with color matched euro bumpers for that mean look but considering it's not for everyone and to help the sale it'll probably receive Schwarz with a few gloss coats.
Price: $7,000.
Put a coat of paint on it ($2,000) and you have yourself an incredible car.
