    Got Backed Into Yesterday

Yesterday, my car got backed into. I stopped behind a guy at a stop sign in North Seattle, both of us waiting to turn left onto Aurora Way. We were sitting there for a while since traffic was pretty heavy. Suddenly, all I see is reverse lights come on, and the next thing I knew, the guy in front of me had slammed straight into me. He had gunned his car, so it was a pretty big hit. Fortunately, the grills, fenders, even the lower valence weren't touched.

We both pulled over and I got his car, plate number, driver's license number and phone number. I'm pretty pissed off about this whole thing. I have enough other stuff going on and I don't want to have to worry about taking my car to get it fixed.

I later took the bumper off my car and took some pictures of the damage. Now with the rant over, I have some questions regarding getting this fix.

Right side of car, which is where he backed into me. Notice the entire bumper is pushed in and the plate is screwed up.

    With the bumper off:

Left side bumper damper/shock, looks ok.

Right side bumper damper/shock. This is the side he hit me on. It's pretty screwed up.

What would it entail to get the right side fixed? I know the bumper damper/shock will have to be replaced, but the sheet metal that the damper is attached to looks really crushed up. Is that part of the unibody, or is that something bolt on that can easily be replaced? Would a body shop have to cut a new piece of sheet metal out and reweld it back on? How much would this roughly cost? Also, does anyone have a good bumper damper/shock they can sell me?

Most importantly, what's a good body shop in the Seattle area that have done good, quality work on E30s?

Bend the metal down, replace shock. Have your insurance guy come give you the $, and buy yourself a 20$ bumper, a 10$ shock, and use the rest on your car or save it.

Next time get his insurance i nfo man, if you didnt already. Always get there name on INS card, policy # etc

    Please leave feedback below, thanks

That's the frame rail (the part that's bent.) Hopefully it's not bent from the inside.

If he don't want them, I will take em. The bumpers on mine are tucked, and after talking with a few other Pro-3 guys, I am going to reset mine to stock.

Thanks everyone for your responses. The bumper itself doesn't look too bad, other than a small crack in the metal and in the front plastic strip. ck_taft, if your metal bumpers aren't too beaten up, I'll take them off your hands. Do you also have a bumper shock? Oh, and I promise I would never bring the metal ones back. ;)

Haha, yeah, I saw that when I was Googling earlier. I don't want tucked bumpers though. I eventually wanted to convert to plastic bumpers anyways, but I guess that may have to wait...

Does anyone have a body shop that they can recommend in Seattle area? Also, I know that it's kinda hard to tell for sure, but what's a rough estimate of the cost of a quality repair? $1000? $2000? $3000?

I'm going to take this to a body shop on Monday to get a few repair quotes. Hopefully, the frame itself behind that shock mounting area isn't bent.
