Perhaps but it sounds like it's suffering from a blown HG. Honestly, if the head's not cracked it's not *that* expensive or hard to fix with the tools, a weekend and a buddy. I did it with Luke when mine popped and it took us 2 days solid work, some machine shop time and less than $800. So, you remove the ricer crap from the car, cut and polish, fix the "overheating" issue (assuming the head's not cracked) all for $2500 into a '95 M3 and resell it. OR, you swap it into a fairly clean shell and drive the ever living fuck out of it.

Agreed.
Not for the faint of heart, but worth it if you have the knowhow and determination.
Will they? Learn something new everyday.. I almost bought one of these before I started the Pro-3 project. But then I saw that there was a a$$load of E36 M3's around here, and they all had been beat to hell!
Agreed, this would be worth it for swap bait. Even say the head is toast, find a replacement or good used, and do a swap (Head gaskets are not that bad, would rather do 10 of them than 1 oil pan gasket) and drive it around while you gather all the parts for a swap. Then when the time comes, you pull the engine, and sell the rest of the parts. Wouldn't be hard to recoup you initial investment I would think.
Also, would make a good base for a racecar/track toy or go for the Spec-E36 class.
