It's easier to unhook the bitch clip and disconnect the linkage, then get the shifting tube in position and then reconnect the linkage.

That's what I was talking about. The one that connects to the bottom of the shifter. You still can't get the shifter tube back in the little console area after unhooking that?

Have you tried loosening the transmission mounts up a little? Make sure to put a jack, trans stand, etc under it first :)

yep. motor mounts are even out. i cant get it to slide in. any way of taking the guide tube out, sliding it on the linkage and then reattatching? i dont see a bolt, just a couple tabs at the front and what feels like a rivet on the back. ya know?

Here is a picture of the rear mount that I think you are working on.

Behind the body flange that it bolts through there is a 13mm nut that you have take off to remove it. You may be able to loosen up that nut and get enough room to slip in the shifter linkage into it and then tighten back up the nut. I hope this helps.

                Cheers,

                Jim

Goddamn dude. I never had that much of a problem getting my shifter tube in the car and my trans was bolted already. Methinks you definitely pushed the motor back in the crash.

Anywayyy...the easiest way to explain removing that shifter tube is to follow that shifter tube to the top of the transmission. There's a little pin with a sliding mechanism on it. Slide the mechanism up and pop the pin out. Once you've got that out, you should be able get the tube free. Then, you'll want to slide the back end of the shifter tube into the console, then line up the top of the shifter tube with the transmission and reattach that pin. FWIW, that pin is a total bitch to get out, but if you've already dropped the trans mounts and motor mounts, it should be easier. I have big hands...no bueno for this job!

                  Good luck man!

Yeah, I'll prob drop the exhaust and driveline for more room. Gotta pull the engine all the way out to do the rear main anyway...
