I read that the other day. It's a wonderfully written piece. I love all my finger touch devices, and I wouldn't trade them for any currently technology. But I can't wait for the future, and I hope people keep pushing tech hard and strong into areas more familiar to human interaction.

If I play devils advocate for one second though, I'd say that the author does need to give us humans a little more credit. While "touch" may be the primary way for the average human to interact with their world, it is certainly not the only way. The human brain and body can adapt its self to suit a multitude of different input/output functions. Everything from learning echo location to Perceptual Adaption. When a human is pushed into unfamiliar areas of interaction, they compensate in amazing ways. Perhaps not ways that work perfectly in our society, but that shouldn't detract from the ability.

Makes me think that the author needs to take his thinking one step further. Why create technology that perfectly suits our current state of interacting with THIS world? I say forget adapting technology to our normal average inputs. Take technology and see how far we can push human adaptive abilities. Perhaps there is an HMI beyond simple touch that we haven't figured out yet.

Of course, I wouldn't suggest that course of action for my next iPhone :D
It's the sort of stuff that needs to bake in an R&D lab for a while. But hopefully someone is doing it.

^ I have found that people are amazing and I'm excited to see what's coming next. I think you make good points and I also really enjoyed the article. I think a lot more voice technology is coming, but I'm looking forward for what goes beyond that.

Interactive 3D projections would be incredible.
