    Moving to Spokane, WA

    Hey all,

I will be moving to Spokane after I graduate in May '12. I've been to the western side of Washington a couple times (Bellingham and Seattle). Wanted to get opinions of the Spokane area. Where to live, stuff to do, that kinda thing. Mt Spokane any good for snowboarding in the winter? I've been living in the midwest my entire life and I'm definitely looking forward to a change of scenery.

The valley is a lot better than downtown I would say. Liberty Lake is a great area, more of a small town near spokane type atmosphere, only downside is its about 15 minutes on the highway to get downtown.

Schweitzer is only an hour and a half away and a great snowboard area. If you're a student its only $10 to nightski on weekends as well, its a great deal and a great place. Mt. Spokane isn't very good but if you're in a pinch and don't want to drive as far it works.

Do you have to? There is a reason it's nicknamed "spocompton"...

So true, I lived downtown for 4 years and being woken up by gun shots and sirens wasn't uncommon.

Already accepted the job there. I'll be there for 2 to 3 years then have to opportunity to move somewhere else. I'm living in downtown Lincoln, NE currently and the waking up to sirens is pretty common here, never gun shots though. I probably won't be living in a downtown area again. So Spokane Valley or Liberty Lake, anything north of downtown like Fairwood?
Thanks for the responses guys. Its kind of a long way off but just wanted to get an idea of what to expect. If I have my e30 up and running by Jan Im going to swing through Spokane on my way back home from Bellingham.

Believe me, anything is better than Nebraska. I know I grew up in Iowa. Spokane has a lively BMW scene there too, NWBMW. Lots of good guys, enjoy it.

Another question, e30 feasible for Washington winter? Living in Nebraska I'm no stranger to snow/ice and I get around just fine in my e30 which has studded snows in the rear and regular snows in the front. Just wondering if most of you drive your e30s year round or have a 4wd/awd vehicle for the winters.
                    Thanks guys
                    Nate

You should be fine with the winter tires you have. Never lived in Spokane but visited numerous times. Great track if that's your thing. Coeur d'Alene, lake Pend Oreille nearby, Glacier Nat Park, etc..
