Springs for a 92 vert help please

So the shop I took my 92 318 vert can't seem to figure out what springs will fit. They've ordered a 3 sets and keep getting the wrong ones. I told them to remind their vendors that the 92 vert is the "old" body style, but that hasn't seemed to help. The shop says the 92 has a different spring size, and that they gave their vendors the vin number to confirm.

I guess my question is, what springs do I need and/or will springs from an older e30 vert/coupe work? Also, I want to lower the car.

    Thanks for your help! :D

Ps, I know the shop is full of idiots.

I will sell my vert springs to you, 30 bucks. Ill answer all questions you have. Its an 87 325, and i know the springs had been replaced at one time, cause the manufacture paint was still clean. It also had kyb rear shocks, and not to high in the rear as well. Just an option. Thanks, Steve

PS. Rear springs are different on verts, "I dont have fronts"

Any E30 (besides early 318 ) springs will work. From the factory verts had slightly higher spring rates in the rear to compensate for the extra weight. You have plenty of options, including the venerable H&R/Bilstein spring/shock combo.

I'm pretty confused by this with the quotes and all. What springs do you have?

          What constitutes an "early" 318?
          Thanks

            Early is 1984-85 318 with the M10.

              I believe m10 and DB's.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

the 84-85 318 had a coil-over-spring setup like E21's, 2002's, etc. All other E30 are the same. If your shop has that much trouble ordering the right parts just order some your self and bring them in.

Any suggestions on the best place to order from?

Actually no, surprisingly. I don't have much experience buying aftermarket suspension for E30's.

it is difficult to find springs that are "vert" specific anymore....but you can ( and I have twice now) used sedan springs on a vert with no problem
yes the verts weigh more in the back, but no more than a stock 318is sedan with 1 peron in the back seat( sedans have heavy batterys in the back too and have seen some with a big ballast weight in the back to balance left to right the battery weight)

ahhh............maybe you need to find a different shop....one that knows these E30's

or like suggested above, get some yourself and find one of the locals on this forum to do the install for some x-mas cash, it is not that difficult of a job,
however at times switching springs can bring the need for other parts esp in the front end when you go to take it all apart and find something bad

if you were near, I could/would

I'm not sure why people are telling you they're all the same and other people are telling you to just throw whatever you find under there...because they aren't and you shouldn't.

Cabrio springs are specific. H&R makes *one* set for us...and I had to buy mine new because I couldn't find them used. Now, I know you *can* put whatever you find under there, but that doesn't make it correct nor does it make it safe.

I've seen people use 2x4's for suspension but that doesn't mean I think it's a good idea.

When it comes to suspension, wheels, and tires, I always remind myself of what my dad said when he paid what I thought at the time was a crazy price for tires for his Harley. He told me that when he's rolling down the road the only thing between his butt and the ground is those tires.

Given that BMWs are defined by their handling, in fact some might argue that is *the* defining characteristic of a Bim, and given that H&R know a thing or two about suspension and handling, when it comes to swapping those parts my advice is to follow theirs. There are major design differences between ours and everyone else's beyond 70 pounds of droptop.
Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!
