    Oregon SCCA Autocross Schedule

Is anyone else planning on showing up for the events this season? Would love to meet up pre-race or perhaps grab something afterwards.

If you're going what are you running this year? The Cabrio is staying D-Stock w/ AutoCross slicks.

probably won't do much Autocross this year (maybe one or two PCA events), mainly running with conference this year. There is an event out at ORP at the end of Feb with STAR projects, you should bring the car out. I am planning on doing shakedown runs with the PRO3 there..

Cool. I figured it'd be fun to gather around this year. Can't be any worse than my first experience there w/ Datsun or the wife with bone stock Miata. Got made fun of really badly so we threated to show up with a Crown Victoria and just take our time through the course. I'm waiting on the schedule for Oregon, but half of them will be in Packwood WA this year. Beyond that the Willamette Car Club is hosting several this near near Salem, at like McKay HS and the fairgrounds. Could be worth a shot.

I ran WMC with my old Focus in SMF (it had a Vortec SC), and took 1st in 2010. You can also run with PCA (Porsche Club) who run at PIR, and have a lot faster, and larger courses than WMC. The folks at WMC are good guys, but McKay is dangerous to run at, and until the Fairgrounds are repaved, it's a bit unsettling as well.

There is also a club that runs in Astoria on one of the lumber mill lots (similar to Packwood) but I have not run with them. PCA can be signed up on Motorsportsreg, and they are very open to other non-Porsche competitors - though you will get lumped in to a general "Other" class!

NWAA is the club that runs in Astoria. They run at the Port of Ilwaco and the Astoria airport. They also try to do a practice weekend or two per year at Packwood.

Eescc in Eugene is a very fun club to run with as well. They basically have only one lot at Coburg but it's usually a fun course and a good group of folks.

The fairgrounds are demolished but I still get out there one or two events per year just to remind myself how awful that lot is.

                Where was that?

Only carnage I've seen at autox is a guy in a fox body mustang hitting a post in the south paddock when he spun in a slalom.

It was a nasty weekend, a guy 360 his Yellow Cobalt SS and jammed it between the fence and one the concrete piers at the SE end. Think this was the same weekend that one of the guys blewup his Vette rear-end, and I think someone else snapped a LCA.

I really want to get into some local autocross this year. Any advice or pointers for a newb?

                        Come out and have fun!

Autox is a social sport, so it's fun to meet people.

                        Tips for n00bs:
                        - Walk the course two are three times, and go on the novice course walk
                        - For your first event or two, just make it through the course without getting lost or hitting cones.
                        - Everyone for the most part sucked when they started, don't let that discourage you
                        - If you have the chance, ask someone to ride with you or try to catch a ride with someone. Autox stinks as a spectator sport but it's fun to ride along.
                        - I would highly recommend the NWAA practice weekends at Astoria and especially Packwood. You end up getting a LOT of runs and you can swap drivers/passengers all you want since it's not a competitive environment. That much seat time is very helpful.

I would say the smaller clubs are bit easier to start out with versus hitting up Oregon SCCA or NWR SCCA. NWAA, WMC and EESCC are all very welcoming.

ORPCA (Porsche club) has a bunch at PIR. Look up the schedule and check one out. Most of the people are cool and there is a very large variety of cars from rentals for trailered cars.
If you want to run, bring a helmet (check with the club for requirements on this).
Clean out all the loose junk in your car.
No special prep needed on your car, just have it mechanically sound.
                            Have fun!!

Probably will roll the PRO3 to a couple PCA events, might even look at renting the car out if others are interested. Gotta get the car out more now that I signed a sponsorship agreement with Konig!
