ITT; You tell me about the PNW

Hey guys, I've got an interview coming up in Yakima, and growing up in NJ and only traveling up and down the East Coast I really don't know much about the Pacific Northwest. The obvious include the e30 picnic, alt-rock and music scene in general, and that there seems to be an endless amount of activities to do; hiking, fishing, camping, skiing, the list goes on.

What goes without saying is that it seems to be an absolutely beautiful area of the United States. In high school, a friend of mine went hiking with her parents in Montana (which is not the PNW I presume, but regardless) the photos are breathtaking.

What can you tell me about the culture? How do you like living there? I am excited for the opportunity and would like to learn as much as I can about the area. Anything else you'd like to share with me would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

It's a conspiracy. This corner of the country sucks in e30 owners.

I'm a Portland native-- lived here my entire life and I wouldn't change it for the world. Sure, it rains all the time and kinda gets depressing, but it's a nice city to live in regardless. Lots of nice scenery all around. Their drivers suck though. God forbid anyone goes the speed limit (going 5 mph over is damn near unheard of) on main streets or highways.

I'm not too sure how many E30's are in Yakima. Probably not too many. I've never been there.

For the most part, the PNW is filled with hipsters, E30's, indie rock music and meth addicts.

      Welcome!

Yakima is called Crakima for a reason. Eastern Washington sucks I've lived both in Seattle and Eastern Washington.

The PNW is great. Especially the greater Seattle area. Go 30 minutes one direction and you're in the mountains, go the other direction and you're in a big city on the water. People do tend to drive slow and gay ass hybrids but what can you expect, it's washington. Lots of hippies, although in Yakima you won't find many. We also have amazing weed if you smoke.

I wouldn't leave this place for anything.

          FUCK YEA WASHINGTON

As previously stated W. WA is completely different than E. WA in almost every way- the weather, the terrain, the people. Most would agree that OR is the same way.

The metro areas in both states would be considered extremely 'Leftist' by many outsiders, while the rural areas of both states are dominated by old fashioned 'conservative' white folks i.e. farmers, millworkers, and unemployed tweakers that drive Power Strokes, jacked up rattle-can camo Toyotas, and Pontiac Grand Ams.

I've lived in Western Wa my entire life aside from the four years I spent in Ellensburg (about 30 minutes from Yakima) while going to school there. Like everyone else has said, Eastern WA is completely different from the other side of the mountains. It's a slower paced kind of lifestyle, the people are nicer and definitely lean more conservative. Yakima has many nicknames like Crakima, little Tijuana etc. and they aren't far off. It's definitely not the best representation of how the majority of the state is.

We don't have rust issues like you have back east. People on the west side of the mountains flip shit at the first sign of snow, heaven forbid we get any accumulation. I love it here, and I really don't want to leave.

This is fairly spot on by my observations. I work sort of on the edge of vancouver so I see a lot of both.

Portland is the e30 capitol of the world.

On my block in SE not only were there 4 bmws, but 2 of them were red e30s.

seattle is maybe the bmw capitol of the us, newer yuppie ones. The OG bmw owners that now have lexus hybrids.. The e30s mostly travel to portland when the kids go to school, and then they sell them for weed.

Seattle and portland are only about 150 miles apart.

Its hard to compare them to cities in the east. Portland is kind of.... a bit of a ghetto boston. Younger college town.

Seattle I cant really give an east coast analogy that doesnt also include boston. Its a little like a larger boston. It has loust traffic but is very wealthy and safe.
