    Shifter linkage/ loose shifter

So I bought an E30 today, and the guy said the shifter bushing needs to be replaced and the linkage needs to be tightened. I called Signature BMW and he wants $300~ to replace the entire bushings and reseal the tranny. I'm also going to replace the t-belt, waterpump, and t-stat and got a quote of $450 for that, which is okay. But is that too much, it seems like it is. Parts are about $100, but how can labor be $200..

You can do it yourself. Really easy. Now is the time to upgrade to the Z3 1.9 lever. Roughly $70 or so, IIRC.

Well I really don't have the tools or time to do it, thats why I'm trying to do both of these things at the same time.

It takes like 20 minutes for someone who's never done it before. You need two screwdrivers and some jack stands.

If you want to drag your car down to PDX I will be happy to rebuild your shifter and replace your T-Belt and water pump :)

Do you have access to a car lift or a garage?

                      No, you want this:

However, I paid $250 to have my G260 completely cleaned, resealed and painted. One of those jobs I'm happy to pay to have done.

austin, can i swap out the shifter bushings and carrier bushings without disconnecting the drive shaft? or do i need to disconnect the driveshaft and drop the tranny to access the bushings?

                            thanks for the help

No, you do not need to. The only thing you need to do under the car is disconnect the cir clip that holds the selector rod to the shifter. Really simple.
