is knechts and baxter auto parts the same thing?

I noticed once in a while they had something on really discounted sale.... like I got a wire set for 7.50 for my nissan there.

I noticed these two chains seem like they are exactly the same. I think knechts is mostly in portland only.

      Baxters = Performance Warehouse

      Knechts is all over Oregon.

I am curious why you would care though, as your location shows kali...

Baxter's has been around for a hot minute, in fact my grandmother dated the guy who owned it way back in High School (true story...) And yes, they are PW. Knechts is another independent chain who buy's some of their special order/non-stocking stuff from PW - hence why you may seem some of the same deals. IIRC, Knechts was started by two brothers, but that was a while back (maybe early 90's?)

PW sells to a lot of local, and national stores in the area, so you may see some overlap in pricing. They were one of our vendors when I worked for Schuck's back in the day, and I think we could even use them when I worked for Checker down in Phoenix.

ya oregon seems to have all the california chains, plus those two.

im pretty sure checkers and schucks are the same chain, now combined with oreilly and kragen.

I was buying parts from Knechts in the mid 80's, so they've been around longer than that. The PW connection is interesting, because I noted a database similarity between Knechts and Baxter a bit over a year ago. I was wondering the same thing.

And yes, Schucks and Checkers is the same, and I think there was a third one in there before O'Reilly.

                kragen.

and yes their online prices and part availability are the same.

                I think they are related...

Yes, Kragen, Checkers, and Schuck's were at one time all owned by the same company (hence why it was called CSK Auto.) The store I worked at in Phoenix was the 24hour store that was often used for commercials, and promotional photos. The ads would then be tailored for either of the three brands.

Schuck's was independent before being purchased and combined. This was back just after they started using the failed "racetrack" store layout..

It looks like Wikipedia does have a little better history then my own memory:

As are Kroger, Fry's, and Fred Meyer.

There are only about a dozen mother-companies in the world, and we can prove it in this thread.

all of those are the same.

however... the reason i ask is knechts is only in oregon and um baxter is mostly in oregon.

So only an oregonian would know.

Fry's food & drug (just so people don't get the two confused..)

and actually QFC, Fred Meyer, and Food 4 Less are all in the NW, and owned by Kroger. Their national home electronics buyer, and other non-food departments is still located in the old Freddy's complex off Powell.

kroger has at least 10 other chains.

where off powell was the freddys complex?

theres a frys electronics in oregon also, near salem.
