Yeah, it isn't really the time that it would take to strip that would hold me back from completely parting it out. It is more of a space issue. Where I live I can't occupy our garage for an extended period of time at all. Also, I don't have anywhere to store a bunch of parts while I'm trying to get them sold. I can deal with the body stuff, the seats and other smaller random stuff, but not suspension stuff, engine, tranny etc. I have a complete 5 speed swap kit that I really didn't have room for, so I'm meeting someone tomorrow to sell it. I'm just going to get it in the garage, take what I want and have a scrapper come get it or sell it to a member. I don't want that process to take any longer than a weekend.

I also don't want to deal with selling that many parts here on the forum. The higher priced items I don't mind, but when I'm selling cheaper stuff like say my OBC/harness/turn signal stalk, I guarantee that people will try to nickel and dime the shit out of me. I'd much rather just have some more expensive stuff, set a firm price and sell it to the first person who wants it at my price.

So does anyone know of any e36's for sale? I always thought that there was a shit ton of e36 M's for sale at all times, and there are some but it seems that they are all either pieces of shit, or they are asking like 12K for a stock example in decent condition with like 150k. I would prefer to pay a little more for one that is in good condition and unmolested, but the ones I am seeing are nothing like the deals that I have seen a bunch of people get online.

I loved my E36's I had 3 of them and one of this days I'll get a sedan M3. Vey different from E30's but very easy to work on and there is a lot of parts and 5x120 wheels out there.

Dang... your story is so similar to mine... I ended up with a Dinan E36 M3 as a replacement to my totaled 325is... So far I love the M, but its a different beast compared to what my E30 was...

Good luck in your search for an M.

bummer - it's fixable, probably around $2-3k, but may not be worth it to you.

and they don't own your car!! there is nothing to buy back since they do not own it! they will just take the "salvage value" out of whatever they pay out if you keep the car. they NEVER have ownership!

I have no interest in fixing the car. It will never be a straight car, so there is no point in putting it back together so it looks good, but doesn't have perfect geometry.

That's really heartbreaking, if I were you I'd find a new front clip and revive it. Seems like a lot of work, but the sentimental value is something similar that I have in my car. I was just thinking about this the other day, it would have to be completely flattened before I gave up and moved on to another shell.

Best of luck to you with whatever you decide.

Oh, and I WILL get my sway bar off of the car. I want to keep it as a trophy of sorts for all of my hard work getting my degree. I can hang it in my garage or something. I made two of them and still have the second one, but it was never powder coated, mounted or tested or anything so it doesn't carry the same meaning.

Thanks guys. I've definitely learned a lot, met cool people and had good times because of this car. I didn't think it had so much sentimental value to me until I went back to the tow yard to get my stuff out of it.

I was always naturally good at math and physics stuff, and once I got the love of cars, it was natural for me to get a mechanical engineering degree. So I credit this e30 with steering me towards my career. For my senior capstone project, I designed, fabricated and tested an improved front sway bar. I learned a ton about vehicle dynamics during the project, and it was a success. I got to do some skid pad testing and if I remember correctly, I got something like 12% increase in max cornering force. Here's a thread detailing the project:

And here's a picture of the car almost completely assembled after I did the body work and paint. In that project I shaved the front roundel, windshield washer nozzles and door locks, added the iS side skirts, mtech1 spoiler, euro trim, euro grilles, e36/7 antenna setup and a front iS lip with splitter. Now at least the wheels live on on Christian's touring.
