    Hey Portlanders....

I'm looking for a house or apartment to rent in the portland area. Houston has a realtors association with a really convenient site called www.HAR.com. Does Portland have anything similar?

If not, what's the best place to look for a rental house or apartment? I'm looking to spend between $700 and $1500....what can I expect for that range?

FWIW I'm planning to move this summer - anywhere between 2 weeks from now and October realistically.

rent is cheap here. if youre looking for an entire house, you might need a bit more but for a nice apartment you shouldnt have much trouble at all with that price range

Many available in that price range, both house and apartments. You need to move here by mid June so you can go to the e30 picnic.

Believe me, I'd love to move tomorrow.

I found listings on oregonlive.com.....but it doesn't seem to be "complete".

I live in SE portland, pretty close in. My rent is 795 a month, all utilities included. 850sq ft, two bed 1 bath. Rent is pretty cheap through out most of the city.

Craigslist is littered with apartment lisgings that reference back to some apartment locator site. I find it to be really annoying.

I don't know "all-in-one" sites, I used CL the last time I was on the apartment hunt.

For your budget you can get nearly anything. You could drop $750 and get a mortgage on a decent sized house in some of the less-desirable areas (gresham?); or put down $1500 on renting a swanky studio in the middle of the Pearl district in the fanciest building... it's all up to you.

Single? How old? If you like city life (and Portland has a good one IMO, especially compared to Houston!) I'd say shoot for downtown. If you're a bit older and looking for something on the quieter side, inner NE and SE have some fantastic old neighborhoods with lots of cool restaurants/shops/bars/etc and plenty of personality. Then there's always the 'burbs, but, well...

There's a 2-bdrm house for rent right next to mine. Not too far out and close to the freeway.

And within that price range, you'd be able to buy it.

                    check out pad mapper.com
It lets you narrow down your search and works on a map so you have a visual of where the place is that your reading about. Most of the listings are from C-list but its a way better format.

I'm not living in Gresham. No way.

I've limited my search to NW, SW, SE and downtown. At this point I'm leaning towards SE. I'm 26, married and want to live relatively near town. I either want a small apartment (studio or 1 bedroom) or a small house. I'd like to spend $1000 per month but can go as high as 1500. I have pets, 2 cars and a small amount of stuff. Buying is out of the question for several reasons....I don't finance anything and I have absolutely no credit as a result. My wife is a RN and I'm in non clinical medical management.

I'm not going to move across the country to live in a junky suburb. I drove through Gresham several times on the way to and from the airport/mt hood and was not impressed.
