I know of a recent fatal accident of a guy on the way to ORP in his Ferarri due to an exposed cage. He got in an accident and bashed his head on the cage. The guy he ran head-on into survived just fine.

Sure, it had nothing to do with that fact he was in an older Ferrari going 3 to 4 times the speed limit and he ran into an almost stationary SUV that turned in front of him..

Also, I love those peeps that crap on Bolt in cages.. Look around the ICSCC pits (including PRO3), you will see a couple, including one of the fastest cars in the grid.

My suggestion: figure out what you really want to accomplish with the car. Develop a plan, don't just keep bolting parts on with no focus. If you are wanting to do drifting later on, the sway bar/suspension setup is different then someone wanting to do track days/club racing. If you want to do track days, and not club racing then you probably wouldn't want to go full racecar (cage, suspension..etc.)

One thing to keep in mind, Track days are for fun; build the car so that you can drive safely to and from the event and around the track. If you are wanting to go club racing, the car then becomes a tool with one goal; going fast safely. Most true race cars are not fun to drive on the street where there are other drivers who are unpredictable, potholes, pedestrians..etc (though there are a couple E30's/Miata's that are driven to the track for club racing.)

      Just my 2 cents..

          No proper correlation,
          Here's some "Is better than's"
          FAST > slow
          SAFE > dangerous
          WELDED > bolt in

None of them have anything to do with each other.

For what its worth I love seeing the bickering in these threads about roll cages and such on the street. Same story over and over. Basically, dont do it, and dont pay attention to what I did ;)

Has to do with who's car it is/and who built/maintains it.

No drifto here. I do have a direction for it. I just want a ride in a caged car so I feel what it's like. My suspension and brakes are going to be finished in the next few weeks. I've been on gc coil overs for a while now and I have new bushings and big brakes coming. If I feel like doing a full cage, I'm going to. Just let me feel it for myself so I can make a decision. I'm just building the car the way I want it.

You are aware how ruthlessly expensive a correctly done cage is right?

$700 in metal is not ruthlessly expensive. If you know how to weld, cut, and bend some tubing, have the tools its not that expensive.

Hell, I'll give you a ride the race car sometime if you happen to be in Portland sometime. It's not street legal right now, but can take you around the neighborhood.

I'm sure your insurance company will totally cover your cracked melon from driving a caged car on the street.

This thread reminds me of every poser who buys those stupid ass cusco cages for their japanese cars.
