WTBorrow: (PDX) Clutch fan removal tools....plz?!

    Hey dudes,

Anyone in PDX have the wrench/holder, and aren't going to be using it for a while? I'll return them asap, sparkling clean with a matching six pack of your flavor. Prease?

Are you talking about the skinny 32mm wrench that holds the fan bolt? If so, you can get one at any bicycle shop for like $10

I think you can just go to any local bike store and get a thin bike wrench and it works just as well. IIRC, it's 32mm or 28mm. Can't remember.

Glad to see you around here again, buddy!

Its 32, but I've broken one of those thin bike wrenches on a bike before, so hitting it with a hammer.... who knows. I'll try, I guess. Park tools have a lifetime warranty anyway.

Austin, I tore my engine apart for a HG like a month ago, and the head still isn't off, haha. Trying to finish it before a campout party on vashon island the weekend of the 27th. After that, I'll be at meets n shiz. Need to get blinded by your skin again, it's been a while.

Price check on Vagiclean, aisle five. I repeat: price check on Vagiclean, aisle five. That's Vagiclean. We've got a customer down here with a full-on fallopian fungus. I'm baking a loaf of bread and I think it's sourdough.

Sell me your rear euro bumper... lol I've taken off that fan clutch with just a regular 32mm wrench. Its a lot easier on a early car vs late. Need any help?

In Seattle atm, coming back tomorrow night, and cracking on with the car sunday morning. Once it's done, though, I'm down for a drive!

Got any recommendations for cheap head machining?

Sorry, Abe! Were you at a party in my complex or something? The note was cute, haha.

Don't the water pump bolts get in the way of a normal wrench? Especially an adjustable...

I could always use help, that would be great! Especially when it is finally time to lift the head/manifolds.

Call and ask. 503.253.7686. Just depends on what you want done. Typically, a full rebuild on those M10/M20/M30 heads are usually around $300.

Ew. To scrape pennies, I plan on dismantling, cleaning, and reassembling myself. I've been quoted 40 just to deck it.

Well, for those M20 heads, the only way to surface is to remove the rocker shafts (otherwise you have some valves that are partially stuck open.) Then you have to do a valve grind, etc. Not a project for the faint of heart!

They're a bitch to disassemble, so good luck!

Here I was, all confident after reading some how-to's with pictures. Thanks Austin :)

I'll rent me a valve spring compressor, get that valve paste/grinding stick, and go to town. I can't afford the other option, so I might as well try...

In order to get those valves to seat properly, you really need to have them ground down by a machine, and with your freshly ground valves, you might as well do the valve seats, too...

Anyway, i'm sure you'll be fine, regardless. Good luck buddy.
