US ellipsoid issues. Can't have hi and low on at same time

So after wiring them in, I tested them and found the hi and low cant be on at the same time. When the lows on and pop the hi on the low turns off, vice versa. Why is this happening?

It's an issue with the silly wiring in non-ellipsoid equipped cars. You can jumper the relay I think to achieve what you want.

You need to jump the low and high beam relays...search and you'll find it on here.

Yep just a single jumper between the two relays.

The picture has 86>86 jumpered. Which would make sense since that 'should' be the trigger input.

Post what your results are, I think I have the same issue.

I think it's actually 30 to 30. Been a while since I did mine. A search on google yields tons of results

30 'should' be hot all the time. Is it not in an e30?

(Wiring 30>30 is the power side of the relay and not a great idea IMO). The 86>86 is the switch side and gives the least stress on the tiny jumper wire. That is, if e30s are wired normally.

Edit; I guess a guarantee would be the output side of the highbeam relay (typically 87) to the switch side of the low beam relay (typically 86), hoping that that wouldn't create any roaming ground issues?

Edit2, 30>30 looks like the least intrusive method of jumpering. The lowbeam power-in is powered by the high beam switched-off leg (87a). I'd try that.

Just did this, works so far. I don't like how small gauge the wire has to be to get the relays to fit in the fuseblock, but it'll work for now.

Mines been this way for a year now but I cannot totally vouch for it. I hardly drive around with both hi and lo on. Im running yellow 3k highs and people get pissed real quick lol

Alright everybody, the problem is resolved for the time being, but Im sure I wont have anymore problems with the lights (knock on wood).

Ended up soldering a jumper between pins 30 and 30 and that seemed to work just fine. Had no issues with it. I will see how it does over time.
