Tourings in Canadia?

My question is: were tourings were brought to Canada or not? I have seen some Canadians with them so did they go through the same loopholes to acquire one or are they lucky bastards?

in canada, you can import anything 15 years old or older, hence a lot of tourings

in america, it has to be 25 years old for you to import

otherwise you'll have to federalize, which on a car of e30's age is about $7500. More for obdII cars. Or just wait a few years, they'll be legal soon.

I'm going to import a touring early next year.

If you don't mind me asking where did you pick up the 520i and where did you ship from?

Currently looking at different shippers and mapping out my plan.

It was already in Victoria BC. Just drove it across the border -- no shipping required.

I did look into shipping back a european car this summer, and got as far as getting quotes; most of the RoR rates I found to tacoma were in the neighborhood of $2100, plus port fees. Not the cheapest. You can cut the tab roughly in half by shipping to a port on the east coast. Of course, then you have to get the car here.

A friend of mine has a touring on the way. Should be a rash of Euro E30's starting to hit our shores in the next year or so. Especially from peeps who served over seas and still have connections.

I have already talked to a few transport companies, $2600 from Southampton UK to Tacoma including RoR fees and port charges.

04/88 is my magic build date, or earlier. Kinda want to bring back a RHD Touring for the hell of it, would be easy to convert back to LHD

This actually doesn't sound as complicated, or as expensive, as it seemed. Ever since getting into E30's I've wanted a touring. I know someone stationed in the UK that could helps make this happen.

What about any adjustments to pass emissions/safety requirements or is the car a relatively easy transition to the states?

If you wait you can bring them down pretty easy. They are not that hard to find but the Canadians know that they are not available in the USA....

A) I don't want to pay the inflated price
B) I want to drive one around Europe for 2 weeks
C) Show up your friend who bought a car at the dealership saying you bought a Station Wagon in Europe and shipped it back!

Or you can just swap the vin with a 318...:neutral:

IMO doing that puts you at real risk if you're ever in an accident. Insurance is a contract -- part of the deal is that the car you're insuring is actually what you represent it to be. My driving record is fine, but I'm not sure I'd ever want to find myself without liability insurance.
