    Garage dilemma...

Ok fellas, I have a two car garage but own three cars in our family.

    1991 318i (my baby!)
    2005 X5 3.0i (family hauler)
    2010 328i M Sport touring (wife's new car)

So right now, the new E91 touring and my E30 parks in the garage while the X5 sits outside.

My wife thinks I'm crazy that I park my $4k E30 inside but our $30k X5 parks in the rain. Am i nuts? Would you guys do the same thing?

Give me some ammo so I can keep my baby nice and warm :)

My 2010 CC doesnt leak, my e30 does. So thats why my e30 is covered.

Hopefully they'll both be covered eventually, though.

Bro it's just rain park the e30 outside its not worth the fight. Maybe if volcanic ash and lava rock were falling from the sky you can argue. Or tell her the e30 will be worth more in 20 years.

I've seen how clean and nice your 318 is. Park that bitch inside. The X5 doesn't deserve a garage spot.

          A couple questions:

          -Do you love your wife?
          -Who often drives the X5?
-What kind of insurance is on each car?

This is probably a bit of a loaded question from your wife, if she also uses the X5, she is probably subtly telling you she doesn't like having to go out in the rain to get in it.

If the insurance on the X5 is better than the E30, then that is a good reason to keep the older car inside.

Sometimes, even if you win an argument with your wife, it's not really a win..

What I would suggest, is spend some good money and buy the best car cover you can afford, and just move the E30 outside. If and when you need to do maintenance on it, then you can shuffle the X5 outside. but otherwise, just move it.

How is a 2005 X5 worth $30K? Tell her that E30 is a lot more fragile and cannot handle the elements as well as the X5

e30 inside, x5 outside. The e30 is your hobby car. It's the car you cherish and work on just to tinker. It's your canvas and you wouldn't keep a painting outside. The x5 is utilitarian. It is nice, but can stand to be outside so your passion can rest nicely indoors.

x5 is an appliance. Keep it outside.

Thankfully, this isn't a huge issue between us right now as she lets me do what i want to when it comes to our cars but im sure that down the road it might come up. Want to be ready ya know? I have a car cover, will definitely use it if i go this route.

-Who often drives the X5? - I do, use it mainly for errands (dropping off the kid at daycare, weekend family hauls and the occasional drive to work)
-What kind of insurance is on each car? Full coverage on both newer cars and only liability on the E30.

After listening to everyone's comments, it makes more sense to park the X5 outside since i drive it on a daily basis for family reasons. When its outside, its easily brought in and out of the driveway with no blocking cars in the way.

The wife asked me if i could just put an infant car seat in the E30 and use it to take the kid to school but im like hello...thats why we bought the X5! Might as well sell the SAV if it just sits tight in the garage while i use the E30 as a daily bitch. Plus id hate to run the E30 ragged doing this. Sigh..

Haha, yeah its probably not worth $30k anymore. Thats how much we paid for her back in 2008. I like the excuse :)

Now thats a novel idea! But unfortuately, i live in a very standard size home with a low garage ceiling. Not an option at this time.
