    Grab a jumper cable and hook one end up to your engine block and another to a good spot on the chassis, easy way to check for bad ground

      check those ground jumpers that you put on each side of the engine to the frame, and one from the wire harness to the frame...

        Sounds similar to the issue I had. My car wouldn't start, or react to the key at all (no low beams or radio or anything). The problem was in the ignition switch mounting tabs that broke off, thus twisting the key wouldn't make the switch change position. Yours looks like it is still grabbing onto the key but not always. Or could be some internal connections inside that are worn.
