    Importing a Car from BC

Now I know the import question has been popped before, but i was just wondering quick if this is different from cars that were US spec and then imported to canada.

There are quite a few cars i see in BC that have the US sidemarkers, DOT spec headlight grills, US Headlights, etc. Do i just need to run the VIN and show that it was US spec previously? I did a google search and found some signs that if its US spec legal except for Headlights or Cluster you can import it and have those pieces changed.

A quick answer is all i need, just want to know if its worth looking at them or not.

If the car was originally a US VIN vehicle then it can be exported back to the USA without any issues.

If the current owner has the paperwork from the Canadian importation and US registration papers from previous owner then show that to US Customs.

This is what I was hoping for, there are a decent few Cars in BC that I was looking at that appeared to be US spec.

Get a letter from BMW USA or BMW NA stating that the car with the vin # on the paper meets all federal regulations. I think those regulations are DOT and FMSV (not too sure about the exact code but it does start with FM and has a V in it).

EPA is 18 or 19 years so most cars will be exempt.

I am actually surprised there has not been an influx of cars in to the US from Canada (or abroad..) Perhaps everyone is waiting until next year to get their M3 Euro's in the back door..

If i were to import something from BC i probably would look at the Japanese or European classifieds instead.
You can find good deals on used EURO market e30s older than 1989 and they are legally importable into the United States now.
                        Get something interesting.
