It is with a sad heart that I have decided to move on from my first BMW, my 87 bmw 325e. Having recently purchased a 77 e21, I have decided to focus my attention on that as well as obtaining a motorcycle, as I commute 200 miles a week and why the heck not do that on a motorcycle at least 3 months out of the year in this beautiful area! I have owned the e30 now for about two years. When I bought it, she was a bit of a sad sight to see with many problems. I have gone about fixing damn near everyone of the problems that arose, and enjoying the hell out of the car. The car is at 254,xxx miles. Allow me to list of some of the upgrades I have made in the last 5,000 miles:
-Ground Control Coil-over conversion kit, 450lb 6 inch springs in the front and 650lb 6 inch in the back, paired with Bilstein sport struts all around. The rears could use a rebuild from Bilstein.
-Brand new driveshaft from Driveshaft services of Portland, including removable u joints so it can be rebalanced. (common issue with these is the driveshaft goes out of balance)
-Lower control arms replaced and used e30 m3 Lower control arm bushings.
-Raceskids skid plate
-Newer model plastic bumper front air damn installed and bumpers tucked
-Wink mirror installed
-Corbeau Forza 3 drivers seat in great shape other then some sun fading, Corbeau GT reclining passenger seat in good condition both on Corbeau e30 seat brackets
-Momo Steering wheel adapter with momo mod 07 dished wheel (wheel is well used) along with generic quick release hub)
-Kenwood top of the line headunit with blue tooth wireless etc. wired up for a infinity sub+amp that actually sounds great
-Innovative MTX wideband control with wideband 02 (the gauge doesn't come on but 02 works great, meant to get around to fixing this)
-Poly-urethane motor and transmission mounts
-Houndstooth doorcard set
-Plastic slip-over dash to go over the cracked dashboard
-Dinan chipped ECU installed
-New rear shock mounts
-5 Speed
And I'm sure there is more that I can't think of right this minute, I've spent a lot of time and money working on this car so far and am upset I am not finically able to turn it into the track monster I know it can be. With the upgrades I have also done a good amount of maintenance, replace a lot of costly parts recently, including a brand new starter with less then 50 miles on it, (a terrible job, not something i want to do again) brand new set of NGK spark plugs and brand new fuel filter. The oil was changed about 500 miles ago. Last year I replaced the cap, rotor, plug wires, alternator, clutch master cylinder etc. Now having said all this, I am currently in the middle of replacing the timing belt, as the PO couldn't tell me when it was last done. The car has been off the road for the last 6 months, as it is having intermittent cutting out problems. I did the plugs and fuel filter and it was running better, but I decided while it is off the road to replace the belt and tensioner. The timing belt should be done by the end of this evening, mostly I had to wait for a wrench big enough to remove the fan. (which I now can't seem to get to break loose :curse:) This car always got at least 20MPG in the city and upwards of 27mpg on the highway due to the 2.93 rear end ratio on these eta model e30's. Now to get to the downsides of this project
Negatives:
-Windshield is cracked
-Tires will need to be replaced, these wheels do NOT have great tires
-Passenger windows are marred up from grinding to close to them without covering
-Rear subframe bushings are needed, they have been squeaking
-Rear Bilstein Sports could use a rebuild, as they are were not purchased at the same time as the fronts
-In terms of carpeting and the front area of the headliner, the interior has been striped. The seats are all there as well as all the plastics minus the one trim piece and check panel in front of the sunroof.
-Front passenger fender is crumpled a bit, but replacements can be found for about 50 bucks
-**CAR IS SPRAYPAINTED FLAT GREEN, NOT ENTIRELY WELL I MAY ADD* Car looks great but as you get close you can tell when I am talking about, as well as up close you can tell the roof has not been completely covered.
My price is 3000 OBO, but when i finish the timing belt I will be much more firm on the price. *THE CAR WILL NOT COME ON THE BASSET STEELIES, I HAVE E21 Stockers as well as a set of black bottlecaps that the purchaser may choose from. I will entertain any trade offers, or offers in general, worst I will say is no thank you. Happy motoring, I hope this car finds a good home that will turn her around.
