    Thinking of moving to PNW

    Sup.

I'm turning 21 on Wednesday. I currently live in Mendocino County in Norcal. My family life has gone caustic the past few years, my dad's drinking and is just an abusive asshole. I'm sick of the lack of opportunities, lack of school, and just the people around here in general. I've had a fucked year, and I need a change of scenery. Cost of living, culture, and a general love for OR/WA my entire life prompts me to gtfocali.

I don't really have any preference as to where to go, so I'm looking for opinions if you have the time. Where would you go? Where are there reliable jobs? Where are some decent schools? (need to finish JC)

    Thanks guys,
    Ian

Seattle area has really decent community colleges, that is if all you want is a small degree they are nice.

One not, EVERYONE in the Seattle area is Overeducated, so don't expect it to be easy to find jobs if you don't have a degree of sorts.

Overall its a nice area though, the summers are some of the best in the country, enjoy 75 degrees and partly cloudy from May-October.

    +E30 Picnic
+LOTS of E30s, so no trouble with parts
+Ocean and mountains barely an hour or two away from eachother, best of both worlds

IMO its one of the better areas of the country.

I hear all this. I'm ready to move, myself.

Portland is nice if you can tolerate rain 6+ months a year. Housing is kinda expensive depending on the part of town you move to (like any city,) but not that bad, really.

      Good luck!

I want to finish my AA and then move on, I'm a semester away. :( My GF is actually from Seattle, and I adore the fact that she's a book nerd.
I'm from an area where people ask "Why you readin'" not "what are you reading?" if that makes sense.

The Oceans/mountains part is a perk. I'm 30 miles from the coast and a few hours away from the trinity alps, so that's right up my alley. Thanks.

How expensive? It's $800-1,000 for a bad 1-bedroom apartment around here.

        Thanks man.

I think I've seen like 1000-1700 for downtown seattle 1 bed apartments, farther out the cheaper, im sure you could get a decent 1 bed in one of the surrounding communities for 500-1000$

Bremerton is cool. The local community college, Olympic College, is actually very good. The shipyard is here and you can get hired on as a contractor if you gave it a shot

a 3 bedroom apartment here is around $1000 a month... FAR cheaper

We pay 750 for a medium size 1bedroom with 2 underground garage parking spots. 5min away from a community college, Northgate area. If interested in continuing school here I'd recommend staying here and working for a year to get residency, then go back to school for in state tuition.

Do it man. You can always move back if you hate it. As long as you keep out of downtown Seattle then rent will be fine. Prepare for rain, and be damn sure you can drive in it lol (not saying you can't, but I have heard stories of socal drivers with light rain).

Most of the PNW can't drive in rain.

As soon as clouds come you must dock your speed by 20mph according to most...

Note to OP: My favorite thing about Mendocino County is my Mendo Mulcher.
