    New problem, great...

Sister killed the battery. Battery won't start with a jump. She took it to a shop and they said it was a bad alternator. They fixed that supposively but lost the key to the car. They swapped the ignition with some used one they found somewhere and gave me a new key. New key obviously won't work with my doors or trunk or glove compartment. I asked for the old ignition and they said they broke that too. Wtf... This is what I get for letting sister borrow the car and letting her try to fix it.

At this point I can either order original key from bmw and carry 2 keys with me ( one to start it and one to lock the car). This is the cheapest option I can think of. Other option is to have bmw order a new ignition and key that matches the car?any ideas people?

Quick question, can I install keyless entry to bypass using keys to lock and unlock my car since I don't have the original key anymore?

Yeah you can do that but if the keyless craps out your locked out of your car. A complete lockset means you change all the locks and get a key with it to use

There's no immobilizers or anything similar that I have to deal with? Straight swap to the new lock set and everything will work?

Fuck that shit. Buy the set and tell the shop that broke that shit to install the whole set free. I'm so tired of shops ripping people off. The last shop I took my car to they used a jack right under where the front fender bolts to the bottom of the car and bent the shit out of it. Makes me so fkin mad.

Have the shop buy an ignition cylinder correctly keyed from you VIN from the dealer? If they fucked it up you shouldn't be paying for it...
