    My M30 Build (Budget)

    My M30 Swap

So I thought I would take the time this evening and finally make the thread for my M30 swap. Im starting with a 1984 318i coupe (Bmw-Bahama-Beige) ODO stopped clicking at 170.420, I'm sure there is well over 220k on the chassis. The car has been garaged since I have had it which will be about 4 years now. It ran and drove fine until the clutch went out. Eventually I want this to be a sleeper.Well ill start with the numbers and some pics I guess and add as I go.

About the B35 I picked up, the guy I got it from said he pulled it with tranny from a car at pick n pull or something. He said he pulled it out of a 1993 535i with 87k on the ODO.

pretty much everything needed for m30 swap.

m30 motor with 325i late model harness would be best. can be done with 535i harness if you really want. with a 84 you will have to splice in to the chassis wires you can pretty much get away with color coding on that plug with some connectors and you will be fine. may be a couple wires you need to extend but very simple. and use the injector wirering harness to make it look clean. install the 325i harness in it.

      535i ecu

e28 radiator 535i radiator i would recommend getting one from like performence radiator because cooling is always the worst problem.

use a combo of the front of a 535i drive shaft and cut after the spline and have a good welder that knows what hes doing weld it to fit with a e30 rear shaft of d shaft. works perfect for me. or for you just shorten your driveshaft and have it rewelded. not sure with that transmission.

e30 m30 motor mounts these are not oem. they are customly made to fit the motor in the car. i have a set for sale

a must is a really good pusher fan on the radiator. have it wired up to key ignition with a e36 318i like 93 94 coolant temp sensor. they kick on at a lower degree so when your sitting in traffic it shouldnt overheat.

i would also reccommend doing like a e34 535i coolant expansion tank that sits above your firewall. it works best for bleeding it. to bleed the car i fill the expansion tank all the way up. and also remove one of my temp sensors on the top and fill it up as well it works every time.

if your planning on running 325i exhaust you will have to go with e25 535i exhaust manifold. i do not have expierience on that i just heard that it bolts right up.

the swap is pretty easy. i dont think im forgetting anything.

i never put this much work in to a post but im bored at work what can i say. but nice job man i love these motors!!

I'd suggest all new timing belt parts, tune up parts, and new seals. No sense on skimping on that kind of stuff.
