Knew a kid in High School whos dad owned a shell station and he said he made 11¢ on every gallon sold, the rest he sent away for tax[/QUOTE]

My former employer told me the same thing about the gas we sold as well.

Most of these schemes are dreamed up to cover the problem of poor planning and spending of the revenues from previous decades.

Um... no. The federal gas tax is $0.24 and the Oregon gas tax is $0.49. So unless gas is 83 cents/gal, your math is way, way off.

You already do. It's called the gas tax.

No, the rest is what he paid for the gas from the refinery. Gas stations don't pump it out of the ground for free, they have to pay for it. SMH... It's true that most stations don't make much of a margin on the gas itself, and 11 cents/gal is probably about right. Their margins are usually padded by the store they also run with food/drinks/etc.

They do. My main car these days is a Nissan Leaf and in Washington State these days there is $100 added to my yearly registration fees.
