    Shops in Portland

    Hey all,

Im in downtown Portland and would love a shop recommendation. Primarily for a tune up, and eventually engine and suspension work. Dont really trust Les Schwab for too much more than tires.

I recommend BMW of Portland personally, few quick things I had done there were competivly priced. Labor is 100$ +/ hr.

Lots of other people use rhom innovations, lab22 for turbo tuning etc, and locals on here who need $

For suspension, Myself, wishno87, Curt, Austin etc, have likely done this type of work for others quite a bit, locally anyway.

    Steer clear of Pacific motorsports.

                Dynasport.

Ryan is a great guy, and besides owning a mess of E30's (M3, Touring, vert, PRO3 car, 2.7i coupe, both a 2-door/4-door iX's..etc.) also a great mechanic.

They are in the Pearl District on 17th.

I've had work and PPIs done at Pro-Tek and Matrix; great guys and I'd recommend both of these shops. I've heard nothing but great things about Dynasport. Plus all have supported the local BMWCCA.

+1 for Dynasport. Ryan did some work for me that I wasn't able to do myself and not only is he a great mechanic and knowledgeable of e30's, he's a really cool guy and very honest. Echoing dahows, his shop also supports the local bmwcca.

BMW Portland is now a certified Classic shop, so they can handle e30s. But you'll pay significantly more per hour than most indy shops.

Pacific Motorsport really knows their stuff, especially on e30s. Mark, the owner, owns several.

Matrix Integrated is also very good, though they specialize mostly in newer cars.

If you need old-school shit done, like carbs and M1.1/k-jet/l-jet work, Mike O'hara is the God of such things.

I always wonder if O'hara is still in business. I have driven by his shop hundreds (maybe thousands) of times and it never looks open..

Mike is a good friend of mine. He's coming up on 66 and is just as crotchety as ever. He works part days due to being slow (10-3 or so), but he's busy enough to keep the lights on, which is good. He knows the early stuff very, very, very well. He even rebuilds E30 M3 water pumps and usually has one in stock, in case someone on here ends up needing one (most places don't have them in stock).

Does he have anyone to hand the business down to or take it over when he just says "eff this.."?
