    Anyone know where to get an R12 recharge done?

    The car is coming back via the I-90 from Chicago go if there are any places that anyone knows where the recharge can be done please let me know.

    TIA for any information.

    Back in the 90's you had to go to Canada to have it done. Don't know about now though, things could have changed.

      R12 is banned even here now. R134a is its replacement. You have to do a pretty simple conversion of things though to install it.

        Buy a conversion kit (R-12-R-134A) at Wal-Mart or auto parts comes with instructions

          I thought the r12 recharge would be the most cost effective option and which would be of least headaches.

          I always thought the conversions were big $$$ and didn't work out well.

          If I am mistaken please let me know.

            Most conversion kits are pretty cheap - the ones I've seen include new valves that screw on over the old ones.

            Then you need to take it to a shop that can dispose of the r-12 and charge it with 134a.

              conversion kits suck. you can get R12 from a licensed installer, but it's gonna cost you heaps. dont ask me how i know.
