Where: Portland International Raceway
When: Febuary 22nd (Sunday)
Time: 9:30am
Feb 22nd Portland International Raceway re-opens for the years festivities. At 10am they are taking $10 donations and in return you can run YOUR car on the track at highway speeds behind a pace car. There is no safety equipment required (besides seat belts of course).
I thought it would be cool to get a huge group together to represent BMW and the local forum members. Plus who wouldnt want to run their cars on the track?!
There are other activities going on during the day, lemme see if i can give a basic listing:
9am: Track walk (check out the track and its surrounding areas, Free)
10am: Follow the leader on the track (this is what we'd be attending, $10)
12pm:Lunch (says sponsored by Friends of PIR association)
12pm: Bicycle race
12:15pm: Enviromental Walk around the surrounding areas
1pm:Lapping session put on by the Porsche club (from what i understand for $95 you can take your car out with a instructor on board and actually race. my suggestion is to get there early if youre interested and see how that all works.)
1pm: Track rides with instructor (for $25 you can go out in a race car with a instructor driving you are a passenger. helmets are available but they suggest you bring your own)
5pm: End of day
Ill be attending in the ETA. I plan to take it on the $10 run. If i can fit my big ass into a race car i might spring for the track ride later in the day. I believe Mr.VanWesterfelt will be attending and might bring a copy or two of his article in Performance BMW to show. I even heard a rumor his car is track certified and might make it onto the track for a lapping session?!?!?!
